Chapter 3: Cafe

"Partner?" I complain while sitting at lunch with Freya. The cafeteria is more spacious than the one at my old school, making me stand around like an idiot while I looked for that familiar red flash. When I sat down, I didn't bother picking at my food and went straight to whining. The girl across from me contemplates my words for a moment before speaking.

"You may be able to ask for a change in partners, but I doubt it, given everyone has already started discussing details." She gives me an apologetic smile when she finishes.

"Freya, I don't want to work with him. The whole class today was him interrupting me every chance he got," I say in an exasperated voice. I sigh before continuing, "I mean how am I supposed to work with someone like that."

"I say tell him what's up," a voice comes from my left. I turn surprised to see a blonde boy smiling at me while stuffing his mouth with the cancerous lunch food this school provides. I feel a strong urge to recoil in disgust, but also laugh. I decided on the latter and gave a small sigh of laughter. "I'm Charlie by the way," he smirks before continuing with his massacre to the pile of mashed potatoes in front of him.

I turn my attention back to Freya, giving her a questioning look, but she just shrugs in response. I look down but remember I was planning on eating at a random fast food place instead of school lunch. I shift my gaze to my watch and see I only have ten minutes left of lunch, not nearly enough time to pick something up. I look back up at Freya to see her attention solely on her green notebook, oblivious to the whole tray of food being stolen by a specific blonde beside me.

Charlie puts a finger to his smiling lips before devouring the other pile of food. I roll my eyes but smile nonetheless before standing up catching the attention of both. " I'm gonna go to the library for a bit, I think I passed by it a few times." They both nod as I turn around and walk to the exit doors.

I already have a feeling that I'm going to be working on this project alone, so might as well get a head start. I have to make a presentation of at least 10 math theorems and who they were created by with an example of using the theory. Easy! Right?

I come to a stop at the closed library doors before swinging one open and walking into the room smelling of paper and... chocolate? I turn my head to the sound of obnoxious chewing and find none other than Clae. He has his back to me, reading a text of some sort on the computers set up for student use, unable to see the confused look presenting itself on my face. I discreetly leave and walk to a different aisle; non-fiction. I scan the sub-sections looking for some type of math book to start with.

I searched the library for twenty minutes trying to find something that might be useful. I sigh disappointedly when I find nothing math-related.

"I already checked, we'll have to do the research online." I spin around to find Clae with that god-awful smirk on his face. I open my mouth to return some snarky comment but stop myself knowing that I should at least try to be cooperative with him.

"Okay," is all I say before turning on my heel and walking to the working tables, purposefully picking the one in the corner, farthest away from the computers. I have a study period after lunch, so I set my bookbag down before taking a seat, not bothering to see if he followed me or not.

I look through my bag to find the book I have recently been reading; twilight, but I can't find it. I look through all the pockets, thinking I may have been in a rush and misplaced it, but no. I think back to this morning tracking my steps before realizing I didn't even put my book in my bag. It's still sitting on my nightstand from where I left it the night before. It just recently came out a month ago in October and I couldn't stop reading. I've heard mixed reviews so far.
