Chapter one- McLeans and Rivers

Kill me now. I thought, dumfounded at my own dim-wittedness. I mentally face-palm myself. Well Gosh, what a wonderful way to start the second half of my first official day.

Hudson Rivers stared at me in shock for one second before his eyes clouded over with anger. "Ohhhh you're so in trouble now, little A." But before he could touch me, I spun on my heel and catapulted from the cafeteria. As I ran down the unfamiliar halls of my new school, my only thought was to get the heck away from the anger-crazed maniac behind me.

I could hear the ringing of footsteps bouncing off the walls of the school. Adrenaline shot through my veins as I gathered the courage to spin around and shout teasingly at the boy huffing behind me,

"You'll never catch me, Rivers." I smirked evilly, "we McLeans are natural sprinters!"

"Don't bet on it, little A. We Rivers," he grunted, "Are known," I watched nervously as he began to gain speed-"for our surprising comebacks," he finished. And with that, Hudson Rivers sprang into the air. Everything was in slow motion as I gaped at him flying towards me. I had only a second to gasp and prepare myself for the impact as his body connected with mine, making us both crash to the hard ground.

Yeppers, a one-of-a-kind first day of school.

3 hours earlier...

I looked at the notecard again, continuing to walk down the crowded hall and bumping into random people once in awhile. Locker 151...152...153...ah! Here it is, locker 154. I mentally pat myself on the back and grin like a crazy person. I had never been in a public school before, my education so far had come from the 'Bennlington Academy For Girls" and 'Rockford Private School". This was a big step in a different direction for me. Plus, I was in the 11th grade and unlike the freshman, who are all new and eager to make friends, I knew there would be lots of people who had been at 'Northerland High' since they themselves were freshman's, and they already had their specified "groups", so whoop-dee-doo for me.

But then again, I thought to myself, this IS a big school. There are so many different kinds of people here that I'm sure I can find someone, anyone, to be a friend...

Putting a nervous but hopeful smile on my lips, I finished putting my things in my locker before grabbing my Math books (I had Math first period of the freaking day!!), and walking in the general direction of room 104. Or, what I believed was the general direction of room 104.

Confused, I looked down at my school map. Squinting at it, I looked up again at a classroom beside me. Room 172. Whoa there, April. Where did you think you were going?! I asked myself impatiently. "Oh gosh." I said out loud, sighing and running my fingers through my long, brown hair (my sister said it was like a chestnut colour).

"Hey, you there, girl with the lime shirt". I looked down at myself on instinct. Upon seeing that I did, indeed, have a lime cartoon printed on my shirt (don't ask me, my mum picked it out), I glanced behind me.

It was a boy with flowing brown hair and brown eyes to match. He was taller than me. My head would probably reach the middle of his neck. His green T-shirt was tight, showing off his muscles and gorgeously tanned skin. He smirked at my obvious check-out.

"uh, yeah?" I asked, sorting my face out, and trying to discreetly returning my eyes to their normal size.

he chuckled and peered at me from under long lashes before saying finally, "You lost?"

I turned around fully to look at him sheepishly from under my own eyelashes.

"heh, yeah, sorta-ish". I laughed nervously.
