We have read this proverb many times. It tells us that true friends are those who congratulate you in your good times, motivate you to fight back in bad times and correct you. They never leave your side. They always listen to your griefs and help you out of it. The example of true friendship is the friendship between Krishna and Draupadi.
Only Krishna helped her when even her husbands failed to do so. The undefeatable Bhishma also kept quite. But only her true friend, her sakha, her Govind helped her.
"A friend is he who gives a helping hand to a friend in distress."
