Avory's POV
The first day of the last. Wearing my black skinny jeans, combat boots, and my rolling stones cut off shirt, I get into my car and drive to school.
'6 years in elementary school, 3 years in middle school, and now my 4th and last year of high school. 13 years... one more year and I'm finally out.'
I park next to Emma, my friend since first grade, as she gets out of her car.
"Avory! Can you believe that it's out last year?" She said as I climbed out of my car, grabbing my book bag from the passengers side in the process.
"I'm having mixed feelings about all of this." I laughed as I gave her a hug, her frame over mine since she is 5'8 over my 5'4 figure.
We walk up to the school and talk about our summer, even though we saw each other almost every day.
"I heard there is a new science teacher." Emma said as we got our schedules and locker numbers and combinations.
"Mr. Drew left?" I asked her, unlocking my locker and putting my extra folders, pencils, and notebook paper in.
"I guess so, his wife had a baby and she is busy with her job so he quit so he can watch it. That's what I heard anyway."
"Attention. All students report to the auditorium. Thank you." The secretary said over the intercom.
Everybody started walking down the halls to get to the auditorium.
Emma and I got there a little late, but luckily some other seniors saved us a seat near the front. Everyone was talking at once, waiting for Mrs. Nelson, the principal. Mrs. Nelson walked on stage and silenced everybody.
"Welcome back!" She said into the microphone,"I hope you all had a good summer and are excited for this year, because I would like to welcome a new teacher. Unfortunately, Mr. Drew quit to take care of his family, but we would like to welcome Mr. Shepard." I looked up from my phone to see the new teacher. He walked out on stage, his eyes finding mine.
"Oh, shit." I muttered.
