Chapter 7: The Ghetto Merman

A minute passes by and Chris still isn't able to wake her up. His stomach drops. "JAYNA!" he shouts one last time. "YO! SOMEBODY!" he shouts. "SOMEBODY HELP ME!" There aren't many people left on their side of the ocean. The few people that are there seem to be distant. "HELLO! I NEED HELP! he cries out. "Jayna, Jayna!" He says to her calmly as he shakes her. "If you're pranking me, just tell me right now" He commands. Jayna's head is resting on his arm. Her mouth is slightly open. He continues tapping and shaking her. He quickly feels her heartbeat. Her heart isn't beating. Chris panics. He looks around for somebody and spots a 🌈guy with acrylic nails on a surfboard🏄. His name is Agwe. "YO! EXCUSE ME!" Chris shouts and waves his arm at him. It takes a moment to get the guy's attention. Finally, he glances over at Chris. "OVER HERE!" Chris shouts. Agwe gets off of his surfboard and swims quickly over to Chris. "Please help me, she's not breathing," Chris says, his voice breaking. Agwe quickly checks her pulse. "Oou honey, you better be glad you asked the right person for this" Agwe says with sass. "I'm going to give her CPR," he says. He places both his hands on the center of Jayna's chest. He starts pushing her chest really fast. Chris panics even more. He turns around and looks to the sky. He prays. Agwe takes a deep inhale. He leans in towards Jayna's lips. "Woah! What are you doing?!" Chris shouts, turning around. "I'm trynna give the girl mouth to mouth chile!" Agwe shouts. "No, that's okay, I can do it," Chris says. "Alright!" Agwe exclaims throwing his hands in the air. "Just tell me the instructions." "Blow into her mouth for 30 seconds AND SLOWLY...." Agwe instructs. Chris blows into Jayna's mouth, slowly as instructed. 30 seconds later, Chris stops. "Why she ain't responding?" Chris asks worriedly. Agwe pushes Chris aside and starts pressing on Jayna's chest again, harder this time. Jayna still doesn't respond. Her skin is pale. Agwe moves back and stares at Jayna. He then looks at Chris. "WHAT IS IT?" Chris shouts as he shakes Agwe. Agwe slowly shakes his head. "I'm sorry man... she's dead," Agwe says. "No," Chris says in denial. He shakes his head. "No, No, No, No, No... NO!" he shouts. "She can't be dead! She wasn't even under the water that long!" Chris adds. A tear runs down his face. "JAYNA!" he shouts, shaking her. He starts to walk away towards the sand. "UHN, UHN! Where yo ass going?" Agwe shouts. "You not bout to leave me here with a dead body! I'm Haitian! I know about them mermaids, and water spirits and witchcrafts and I don't play that sh*t!" Agwe rambles. "I'm finna call the ambulance. She can't be dead" Chris replies trying to keep his calm. "Okay, wait!" Agwe shouts. "Maybe, we can check for a pulse one last time. I used to work in the medical field and one thing I learned is that a pulse can come and go" Agwe implies. He places his hands on Jayna's chest and starts pressing again harder this time. Daquan then takes a deep breath and a step back. Chris pushes Agwe aside "JAYNA!" Don't do this to me! Jayna wake up!" Chris shouts. He continues calling and shaking Jayna. There still isn't any response. He shakes her even harder. "Don't break the girl nie!" Agwe shouts. Finally, Jayna spits out the water in her mouth. Both she and Agwe burst out laughing extremely hard. Chris freezes in disbelief. "Chile! Did you see his face?!" Agwe says to Jayna and
imitates Chris's face. "That boy... was scared for his life!" Agwe adds, trying to catch his breath. He and Jayna are weak from laughing. Jayna starts to mock him. "Jayna! Jayna! Jayna!😂" She teases. Chris then releases his anger and starts punching the water. "That sh*t ain't f*cking funny Jayna!" he shouts. Agwe and Jayna get quiet for a moment in fear. They then burst out laughing again. Chris stares at them in disgust. "Do y'all know how hard it was to keep my laugh in!" Jayna exclaims. "Awww we're you crying?" She asks. "You love me?🥺" She whimpers as she reaches her arms up to hug him. Chris pushes her arms away and starts speed walking towards the sand. Then he pauses and turns around slowly. "Wait a minute, why the f*ck are you laughing?" He asks ferociously and points at Agwe. "Did you know she was faking this whole time?" Agwe tries to catch his breath. "She..." he begins then starts laughing again. "When you turned around..." he begins again then breaks into laughter. Chris takes a deep breath to calm himself down as he runs out of patience. "When you turned around, she tapped me and whispered that she was pranking you and to go along with it. So I did😂😂😂" Agwe says, finally getting his words out. Jayna catches her breath. "I had to get you back since you wanna play with sea urchins right?" Jayna exclaims. "THAT'S NOT HOW YOU F*CKING PLAY JAYNA!" Chris yells at her and continues walking away. Jayna follows him and tries to calm him down. "OH! SO IT'S JUST F*CK AGWE RIGHT?!" Agwe shouts from a distance. Jayna walks back to Agwe. "Thank you boo!" She says to him and hugs him. "What's your Instagram?" She asks. "@gwe_dabarb" Agwe responds. "Okay, Imma try to memorize that," Jayna says repeating his username to herself. "Frennn, I'mma need your Instagram too, you mad cute" Agwe says. "It's @jaynnnaa_" "Okay boo, I'mma follow you, let's keep in touch and be besties!" Agwe says eagerly. They continue bonding. Jayna looks back and notices that Chris is in a far distance. "Oou girl, let me go back to him, I think he's mad at me" Jayna implies. "YOU THINK? Chile that man is pissed! He'll be alright though! Alright, bye!" Agwe shouts and waves at her. "Bye Fren!" Jayna shouts back and runs after Chris. "Mmmm. Mmmm, mmm, mmm" Agwe utters after Jayna reaches the sand. "That boy almost caught these mer-hands screaming at me like that." "Almost ruined a girl's lace front," he says patting his wig. "These humans are just something else!" Agwe voiced. "Mwen grangou kite m'we sa yo kwit manje desann isit la"  he says in creole. Suddenly, his legs magically turns into a fishtail and he dives and disappears straight into the water.
