I threw my bags into the back of my Range Rover and angrily slammed the trunk closed."Mom!" I yelled, trying to get her attention. I waited for a few seconds until I saw her running out of the front door of our house.
"Yes?" She asked, looking rushed. "I'm headed to Luke's house." I grumbled. She snickered at me and patted me on the back."Better get going then!" She said.
I quickly gave her a hug and slipped into the drivers seat of my car. I rolled down the window as I turned on the car and pulled out of the driveway.
"Bye." I said. "Have fun!" She replied, even though she knows I will be having anything but fun."I bet I won't!" I said with a sarcastic smile, and with that I was on my way.
The whole way to Luke's house I was just thinking about how awful this summer already was, and I hadn't even seen Luke yet. Why the hell did they need me to babysit Luke? He's 17 years old, he can handle himself! But then again, maybe he can't. After all he hasn't had the best reputation.
He is always getting into trouble. He has the lowest GPA I've ever seen, there is no way any college would accept him. He has been to juvie so many times I lost track. He's been smoking pot since he was 15 and has slept with practically all the girls from my grade. Besides me of course. And I on the other hand, am the complete opposite.
My grades have always been exceptional not straight A's but I try. Never been to juvie or gotten into any real trouble in my life, and the whole drugs thing was never really my scene. I tried pot once and I'm never doing it again. Luke always makes fun of me for that.
Once I pulled up in the Grayson's driveway, I felt dread flood into me. I stopped the car and turned it off. I shoved my keys in my purse and threw the door open. I closed it behind me and walked right up to their front door. I rung the doorbell and as I waited for someone to answer, I examined their house. I never took time to appreciate how elegant it was. There were two white columns on either side of the front of the house and the whole house was white as well. Their lawn was trimmed to perfection and was maybe a little bit too green. The front door was a dark red with an intricate, antique doorknob that was polished to prefection.
Right when I notice that one of their flower pots had fallen over on its side, making their perfection of a yard a bit imperfect, the front door swung open, the smell of flowers and fresh air filling my nose, and the sight of Luke smirking at me grasping my attention. I immediately frowned at the sight of him, wishing Sandy would have opened the door. But I had to admit it, as I much as I hated him, he wasn't bad looking. His tan skin practically glowed and his light brown tousled hair almost matched perfectly. His eyes were a gorgeous hazel and his eyelashes were very long, almost as long as mine. His jawline was very sharp and his lips, soft and pink. My eyes shifted down to his chest and arms, prominent muscles showing through his thin T-shirt. He was a dream, until you got to know his personality. Then you wanted to puke.
"Knock knock, Rae? You know it's rude to stare right?" Luke asked, his voice deep and raspy with a smirk still plastered on his face. I somehow manage to frown even more and roll my eyes at him. There he goes with another comment to set me off. I hate it when he does this.
I stand up a little taller, holding my head up a little higher and push past him into the house. "Your pot fell over. Might wanna fix it before somebody sees." I say as I leave him there alone, trying to find his mom, Sandy.
As I walk through the house and into the kitchen, I see her standing at the island in the center of the room. "Rae!" Sandy said, walking up to me and embracing me in a warm hug. I breathed in her scent, which smelled of flowers like always.
She is a florist and owns a cute little flower shop downtown where she designs bouquets for all different occasions. I go there quite often actually because I just admire what she does, it's so fascinating to me.
As we let go of each other she continues to say, "Thank you so much for doing this Rae, it means so much to me. We will be back before you know it!" She gives me a reassuring smile.
She knows that Luke and I have had our differences for a long time now and she knew I wasn't looking forward to this, but they're like my family and you can't let down family. "I know." I said back.
She grabbed my hand as she led me to my bedroom, babbling on about how she wanted to make sure I liked it and how she had designed it just for me."Sandy, you know I'm only gonna be here for three weeks right?" I asked laughing."I know, I know," She said."I just want you to be comfortable." I smiled."I'm always comfortable at your house." She gave me a grin as she opened up the door to my temporary bedroom.
It was beautiful. The minute you walk in you see a queen sized bed, white sheets and covers, and a silky white canopy hanging down from it. White furry pillows sit at the border of the headboard, so many of them I couldn't possibly count them all. I look to my right to see a large vanity that looks like its for celebrities, with light bulbs surrounding the edge to create a glamorous setup. Pictures hang on the wall of Marilyn Monroe and Madonna, completing the whole celebrity theme. I look to the left side of the room to see a large window seat with silky white curtains on either side of the window. It had a furry white cushion and white throw pillows to match the room, which was well--white. Sandy seemed to like that color. Almost a bit blinding in fact.
I walk over the window seat, gasping, Sandy trailing behind me."This view! It's perfect..." I said in awe. "Thank you so much." I turn around and embrace Sandy in one of my big bear hugs. "Alright, alright," she laughs."I'll have Luke bring up your bags so you can get unpacked. Grady and I are leaving for the airport in about 30 minutes." I frowned at just he mere mention of Luke's name. "Okay, thanks again." I said as Sandy walked out, leaving me alone in the room. Although I was dreading having to spend time with Luke, this room was quite the setup. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all...
