When I was younger my mom always told me that some people are born on the rough side of the fence. The one that gets scraped by lawnmowers trying to get the edge of the grass, and red balls smacked onto its side. "My Eliphaz, you are too young to understand that those on the other side of the fence must stay there, and so should you." She died a few months ago. This conversation had taken place when I was nine and had told her about the new kid in school. He was different and seemed to have no issue with those who pointed out these differences, and made him feel inferior to them. In fact, it almost seemed to make him happy when he was given the chance to wave their ignorance away. I decided later on that he didn't follow the rules, that instead, he chose to climb the fence and much preferred the view on top.
This is my fourth year of high school, and my fourth year taking Latin. I was fascinated by the root of speech. "Haah.." I let out a long sigh picking my stuff up and getting ready for my Latin class. On the way, I passed Diem, but he didn't speak or make a sound. He seemed to be deep in thought. Maybe he was thinking of a new strategy to get to the top of the fence. The only contact was our shoulders brushing together for a brief moment. Diem. "Day".
"The fuck are you on dumbass? Talking to yourself.." I look over to see non-other than Emrye. I don't really know if you could call us friends, we seem to just tolerate each other and play nice. It's probably because we both don't know how to conversate with people. "Whatever." They roll their eyes at me, shaking their head. "Listen Eli, this is why you have no friends!" They say grabbing hold of my shoulders shaking me back and forth. "Shut the hell up, you have no room to talk." I reply swatting their hands off me and continuing my walk to Latin. "Hey dude wait up!" Emrye yells jogging slightly to catch up with me. "Do you even sleep anymore?! You look like garbage!" They exclaim. " I'm fine I just woke up early to get some extra homework done. It's not a big deal." I defend myself. I continue walking just a bit faster than before, I didn't feel like talking to them anymore. They were right I was tired, but as the saying goes "Carpe diem"
Seize the day.
Hey everyone! This is the first book I am writing, and so far I am really enjoying it! The story will be updated at least once a week depending on how many people enjoy it, but I may do more than that because I'm really into the story. (Low-key I wanna see what happens next too lol)
Feedback is always welcome and appreciated!
Love, Esa <3
