Chapter 1.
I slammed my tray down on the cafeteria table, and Meri looked up at me, her eyebrow raised.
"Bad day?" She asks, a hint of humor in her voice. I looked at her with annoyance, and nodded my head miserably.
"Yes. Mr. Gabriel is actually trying to kill me. Seriously! He gives two three-page homework assignments, and then adds the science fair into the mix.." I trail off, and pick up the cheese pizza, it's delicious aroma almost caused me to drool. I took a big bite, and hummed in appreciation.
"Hungry, I see." Zeke laughs, as he sets his tray down next to mine. I nodded, my mouth full. When I had swallowed, I turned to Zeke.
"Zeke, you have no idea how much hunger a teenage girl with cramps for the pits of hell could possibly have, but it's a lot." I explain, and Meri started laughing so hard she was snorting. She covered her mouth, quickly, looking fairly surprised of the noise that she had just left her lips.
Zeke raised an eyebrow teasingly, and then looked at me, "Well, it can't possibly be that bad."
I gave him a look of pure disbelief, and then stuffed the pizza back into my mouth.
After a while, Meri looked up at me, swallowing, "So, is your mom still having those new people over tonight?"
I groan, and nodded my head.
"Sadly." I say with irritation. This new group of boys had moved next door and, as most of the new neighbors did, they brought a lot of female attention with them. My mother, thinking it would be a kind gesture, actually went over to the house and invited the four boys over for dinner. Despite how awkward I knew it would be, I had agreed to being a good neighbor and host, agreeing to get semi dressed up. Meaning I would put on jeans, and proceed to act like a nice little daughter. No guarantees on my brother...
One of the boys had actually at the school today, Luke Andrews. Rumors were that he was with his three brother, Kason, Mike, and Raymond, because their parents had died in a car accident last year. So far, no one really wanted to talk to the new kid. He was a little off..really shy, and he dressed pretty...bright, I guess is the best way to put it. I thought the fact he wasn't like the rest of the school population was a breath of fresh air, and I wanted to get to know him, but I hadn't yet worked up the courage. My hand instinctively went up to my neck, and I rubbed the scar that was stretched across, softly. I didn't take a liking to strangers. They were uncertain and things that uncertain scare me, leaving me on my edge all of the time. You never who was out to hurt you, and who could end up being a big part of your life.
"Good luck with..him, Ads." Zeke nodded his head in the direction of Luke, seated off by himself in the corner of the cafeteria. As the two left me sitting there, I was studying Luke. He had light brown hair, and was wearing a black beanie, little strands falling over his forehead. He was wearing a loose fit black t shirt, and a pair of bright red skinny jeans with white converses. He seemed pretty emerged in his DSI and I noted that whenever he would mess up he would utter a small curse and his eyebrows would furrow, looking very aggravated. I didn't think he was paying any attention to me, so needless to say I was utterly surprised when he looked up, looking directly at me. I let out a slight gasp as his bright green orbs met my light blue ones, making me feel like he was looking deep into me, like he knew my deepest secrets. He was smirking slightly and I could tell he was amused by the way I couldn't break the gaze. Suddenly, he grabbed the bag that was laying next to him, and slung it over his shoulder. He shut the DSI, and then, right as he was leaving the cafeteria, he winked at me, leaving me utterly confused. I looked back down at my pizza, and grabbed the tray, walking to the trash can, no longer having an appetite.
