I hear the door unlock. Which means she finished work.
"SURPRISE!" She shouted, as she slammed the door open. It hit the wall causing the picture frames to fall. I looked at her blankly. She looked disappointed.
"No reaction again." She whined.
"I jumped.. that's a reaction." I said under my breath. She's a short tempered girl who has no desire to live whatsoever. Even though she doesn't show it, anyone can look at her and tell she has given up completely. She hides it with her mediocre humor and excitement. As someone that has been living with her for a while it's easy to tell.
"You're home early." I pointed out.
She sat next to me on the couch.
"Yeah there wasn't much going on so they sent me home-" she noticed all my notes on the table.
I already knew what she was going to say.
"Please don't tell me you're doing pointless research again." She scattered them around.
Rather than getting mad I pretended it didn't bother me even though I spent hours organizing them.
"It's not pointless."
She poked my head. She has the habit of doing that.
"So tell me Mr. Mysterious. How is this information useful?"
I wasn't sure if she actually wanted me to tell her or not. It puts me in an awkward position when she asks because I don't like lying to people, but in this case I have no other choice.
"It's for school." I replied.
She looked puzzzled.
"School?"
"It doesn't start for another month." She said.
"Yes, I know. It's a summer assignment." I exclaimed.
I looked away because I could feel my face getting hot. I was flustered at this point.
"I'm the only immortal.." she whispered. I saw her looking at something I'd written. I panicked and quickly gathered all of my notes.
"Okay I'm going to sleep now." I said as I walked away.
I feel I made the situation more obvious because of the way I got up. I'm sure she'll forget about it though.

"Kenny." She said my name.
I stopped walking and paused in the hallway.
"Yes?" I asked nervously.
She turned around and looked back at me. We made eye contact.
"Goodnight." She said calmly.
I was expecting something else to come out of her mouth but I'm actually kind of glad it was that.
"Goodnight" I laughed lightly. I then ran into my room and locked the door.

That was close. I'm getting more and more careless about this whole thing. I need to get serious. I looked at myself in the reflection of my computer screen.
"It's really not the face of determination." I said quietly.

I started to think about May. Something about her seemed off. I didn't want to say anything because I know how sensitive she is. If anything I was the one that was off. I almost blew my cover. I sound like some sort of spy. Well I suppose I am in some sense. Would it really be a big deal if she found out?
I just realized Mars never came home. Mars is my other roommate. Him and I are pretty close. He's the most absent one out of us all. It's understandable though.
His dad is a part of the HMA which is just short for the human mortality association. They are a large group that conduct 'research' on humans because they want to find the cause to this never ending life sentence.
Some people might think being immortal or having multiple lives is a blessing but over time you start to realize that it's not always the case. As humans, because that is what we are regardless of the amount of lives we are given, it is only natural for us to become tired. Even though we're given multiple chances at life, it doesn't change our age or our physical abilities and appearances. It's actually more of a curse. For me it's more worse because no matter how many times I die, I will always return.
