"Come on, Eda! I want to go to bed already!" King whines, rubbing his tired eyes with his tiny widdle paws. He sits on the couch watching Eda drawing another paper glyph on the floor while being surrounded by balled up other papers, misshapen shards of ice with some partially melted, and ice spears sticking straight through the ceiling.
Eda dismissively waves her hand at him while carefully finishing the last detail of the ice glyph. "Nononono-wait. I think I got it. I got it this time." Spitting in one of her hands and rubbing them together first, Eda lowers herself onto the floor and gently presses her hand onto the sheet.
The spell activates as it glows beneath her palm. Slowly, ever so slowly, she raises her hand to make the ice rise out of the floor. It continues to rise until it is revealed to be a perfect sculpture of the King.
"Ah ha!" Eda exclaims, joyfully picking up the statue and showing it to her little buddy. " I did it! Better watch out now, sis! Because mama's catching up!"
King squints his eyes carefully at the statue of himself while rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "... eh, I'll give it B+ for effort," he shrugs. "Pretty sure my muscle mass is supposed to be like ten times bigger than that."
Eda rolls her eyes at him and spits her tongue at his opinion. "Well, I know Luz would love it," she huffs. "Speaking of, where is that little rascal?"
"Think she mentioned going to a library or something," King yawns.
Eda glances at the window to see it being pitch-black out there. She was so focused on honing her spells, she hadn't noticed the day was already over. "It's pretty late for her to still be out. And the library should've been closed by then... I'm worried. Maybe I should go out there and look for-"
Right on cue, Hooty slams himself open and sticks his head out in front of Eda. "Hoot hoot! Guess who it is!" he cheerfully exclaims. His face suddenly twists in pain as tears begin to stream down. "Not Lulu! Waaaah!"
Eda recoils back from Hooty's outburst before he slowly recedes back into his slot to allow Luz walk in before slamming himself back shut.
"Luz!" Both Eda and King rush to their favorite human who just stands there with a blank expression on her face while holding up the mouse in her hand.
"I'm home," Luz replied, robotically.
Eda excitedly shoves the ice, cold statue of King into Luz's face to show off her hard work. "Take a look at this! Looks like the master is about to take back her throne! I mean, sure, it took me eighty-four times to get it right but-hey, is that an echo mouse in your hand?"
King stares at the little rodent with a skull for its head and grunts in disgust. "Ew, it has a skull for a head! Why did you bring it here?"
"And did you find what you were looking for at the library?" Eda asked.
Luz didn't say a word even as Eda continued to prod her face with the ice statue nor did her eyes even look in their direction. It wasn't until Eda mentioned the library did she finally give them a response.
"Huh? Oh. Yeah, I did." muttered Luz, still in a hollow tone with a vacant stare. "This little guy has all the knowledge about the other human who might know a way back or something so he's going to be living with us from now on."
The little rodent crawls around her arm and down from her body to scurry over to the couch where it pops underneath and out sight.
"Oh good, another freeloader in the house." Eda glances to where it ran off to then back to her student who still hasn't changed from her stone-like appearance. She waves her hand over her face trying to invoke a reaction but still gets nothing out of her.
