At Kunugigaoka Junior there is an established academic system, which promotes social discrimination against the students of the classroom with the lowest grades that is the so-called "Class E" or "End Class" — the name comes from the fact that students placed in this class are usually at the end of their academic aspirations.

The reasoning behind this discrimination is that, if a handful of students are harshly discriminated against, the majority will work harder fueled by pressure and a sense of fear and superiority.

Alas, humans make the most progress when they have an object of discrimination and scorn.

It is also thanks to this method of teaching that E-class students are victims of relentless bullying coming from those in higher classes — the students in the main building.

Whenever the "prodigies" and the "no future" meet, due to an assembly in the main building or simply bumping into each other at the train stop, comments are indispensable.

"Oi, Nagisa!"

The blue-haired boy, Nagisa, was near the entrance to the school, just wanting to go home after a long day up and down the mountain for his classes. The fact that there had been an assembly didn't help the boy's fatigue, the effort of going down the mountain by its most dangerous route and still having to listen to the comments of the other students were not the most pleasurable activities.

And although this year the assembly was not so bad, thanks to their new teachers, Shiota could not help but envy one particular classmate.

Akabane was indeed a lucky one in the eyes of the rest of class E — skipping assembly and doing as she pleased without fear of the consequences and still managing to get good grades.

"Huh?"

In front of Nagisa were his two former classmates, Takada and Tanaka.

"You guys... are kinda forgetting your place, aren't you?" The thinner boy of the pair, Takada, asked while adjusting his glasses.

"Laughing it up during the assembly..." The teenager with visible acne, Tanaka, added. "Just think about the trouble you caused for those around you!"

Shiota never liked trouble, — his mother would go mad crazy if she knew of her son getting involved in any kind of fight — being in the lower class was enough and so he never responded when any of his former classmates teased him.

The blue-head boy just looked away and listened to what they had to say.

"Oi, what's with that dissatisfied look?" The larger of the two questioned in a shout, displeased with the other's reaction. "SAY SOMETHING, CLASS E!!!"

It was when Nobuta tried to break out into physical aggression, prepared to pull the former classmate by the necklace of his uniform that an unknown blond boy stepped in front of him.
