Chapter One

The air was crisp, autumn settling in once again. Taehyung yawns—up to early for his liking. "Tae dear, get dressed and come eat breakfast. We have a long day ahead of us", the tired boy's mother shouts out. With a groan the 13 year old hops out of bed. Thump! "Ow ow ow", Taehyung hisses out. He probably shouldn't have left his shoes next to his bed.

Shaking his brown curly hair out of his face, he makes his way towards his closet. Of course, he's going to wear the same outfit as usual, seeing as though he doesn't have anything else.

"Ah yes, this will do. I think my pants are getting too small though..." Taehyung says thoughtfully looking into his mirror.

He wonders if he can get away with not brushing his teeth. He's way too hungry right now, he might bite off the toothbrush hair things—or whatever it's called.

Deciding to take the risk of not brushing his teeth, he hurries into the kitchen. "Tae my love, you wore the same outfit yesterday...you have other clothing you know?" His mother says, eyeing the boy up and down.

"Ah well everything is getting too small, also it's not like my closet is full of clothes." Taehyung responds back, drawing out the 'full'.

His mother rolls her eyes and signals for Taehyung to sit down at the table. He knows why she didn't respond. She's short on money, she always is. His father died years ago leaving them two of them all alone. Ever since then, money has been tight.

Taehyung doesn't push the conversation. He sits down at the round wooden table waiting for his mother to bring over the food.

"Grits?! Yuck Mom!" Taehyung shrieks out like he was just stabbed in the gut.

"Taehyung hush up and eat your food. Grits are good for you, I want you to eat it all so you can have enough energy for today" His mother says, then scooping grits into her mouth.

Taehyung pouts. He doesn't see why he has to go shopping with her today. Shopping is boring and dull, especially when you have no money to get what you want. He wouldn't dare tell his mother that though.

He remembers asking for an action figure when he was younger. Instead he got clothing. He threw a fit so bad he made his mother cry. Now that he thinks about it, he sorta feels bad. His mom couldn't afford the figure so she got him clothes. He doesn't even think he said thank you.

Nevermind that, Taehyung eyes his bowl. He honestly couldn't stand grits, the texture, the taste, the look god he hates everything about them.

Regardless, he picked up his spoon and started to eat.

"Taehyung, bring your butt here!" his mom yells out from across the market.

Taehyung freezes in his tracks. He didn't think she would see him sneak off, she must have eyes on the back of her head or something.

Taehyung timidly trudges over to his mother. "How many times do I have to tell you not to walk off?! You could have been taken from me." His mother says glaring at him.

"Ah I know, I'm just so bored. There's nothing to do mama." He whines back, holding onto her hand. His mother pulls him over to the cash register.

"Taehyung hands this man the groceries, it's the least you can do for running off." His mother sighs out watching the price go up with every swipe.

"Young boy, you should listen to your mother. Anyone can come snatch you up, then you'll be without her. Then you'll have to rely on the earth to take care of you." The old man at the register states, while ringing up the total.

"Rely on the earth?" Taehyung says back. Who is this old man? What does he even mean? Was he listening to our conversation?

"Ah, like the boy in the forest right?" His mother responds back. Boy in the forest? What are they talking about?

"Exactly. Listen here young man, kids who have no one else and nowhere to go get taken by the forest. The kids then become one with the planet. Sometimes you can hear giggling through the trees from a young boy, Presumably around your age I believe." The old man states, looking down at Taehyung.

"What does this have to do with me?" Taehyung snorts back. His mother hits him on the head for being rude. He couldn't help it though. Kids with nowhere to go, getting taken by the forest. And here he thought adults were supposed to be smart.

"Ah, I suppose nothing. Just make sure to stay with your mother, young man. Or you will end up like that poor child. Forever stuck, surrounded by dancing leaves and cascading winds." The old man sighs, his eyes holding more emotion at those words.

Taehyung doesn't know who this boy in the forest is, but he's sure he's having a better time than him right now.

"Did you hear that Taehyung? Stay with me so you don't get gobbled up like that poor kid!" His mother says, grabbing him and spinning him around. She lets him go and grabs the bags of food.

"Now let's go, my love. We have to get you some new pants." His mother says, grabbing his hand. She turns back towards the old man and waves goodbye.

"Mom, is that true? Is there really a boy forever dancing in the forest?" He asked, looking up at his mother. "No one knows for sure Tae, but sometimes if you go far enough in the forest, the wind will blow around you leading you to the boy. I don't want you going around there though Taehyung. It's not a place for a little boy like you." His mother says, hand gripping onto his tighter than before.

"I won't mom, just curious. He's probably all alone in the forest..." Taehyung sighs out.

"Maybe so, promise you won't go near the forest. I can't lose you" she whispers out, she can't lose her only child.

"I promise mama, I won't leave you" Taehyung responds.

He would never end up like that boy. He would never go to the forest. He would never leave his mom. Never.
