"Are my tickets ready?" Tia asked her personal assistant, Pallavi. Pallavi nodded. "Yes, Ma'am."
"Good," Tia said, scrolling through her email. Another offer for a modeling contract, a couple emails regarding her current contract, some from the media, questioning about her fiancè. "Ma'am, if you don't mind me asking, why the sudden trip to the Maldives?" Pallavi asked nervously. Tia looked up at her, to which she quickly averted her gaze.
Tia sighed. "I'm going on a vacation of sorts."
"But, ma'am, so close to your wedding? Isn't that—"
"My personal life that you're intruding on? Why, yes, it most certainly is," Tia remarked sardonically. Tia already had the entire world over her shoulder, telling her what she could and couldn't do. The last thing she needed was her PA to swing in on that bandwagon. "You work for me, so stay in your limits."
Pallavi nodded, looking down at the floor. "Yes, ma'am. Sorry, ma'am," Pallavi said.
A part of Tia genuinely felt bad to yell at her like that, but another part of her told her conscience that it was okay since she deserved it. How dare she tell Tia Kapoor what she was restricted from, anyway. It's my life and I get to choose what to do with it. No one else has that right.
With somewhat of an affirmation, Tia proceeded to the car which would take her to the airport.
Shivaay's phone buzzed the moment he stepped into his glass cabin at Oberoi Industries. Pulling it out, his eyes shrunk in annoyance as he read out the new message.
"Hey Shivaay baby, I just wanted to let you know that I'm going on a bit of a vacation for the next month or so. I plan on leaving tonight. Please tell the rest of the Oberois on my behalf. XO, Tia."
Shivaay rolled his eyes as he typed out a positive response to her message and turned off his phone.
Anika sighed as she flicked through the channels on TV. Almost every news channel was seemingly obsessed with the ShiTia engagement, and Anika was on a seven month break. From Shivaay, from Tia, from the Oberois, from everything.
No one wanted reminders of the third to worst night of their life on replay, now did they? Anika groaned as she turned the TV off and threw the remote to the side, in SSO style.
If Anika was like this now, two days after the engagement, what would happen after Shivaay and Tia got married? Anika would surely die a thousand times inside.
"Didi, see! Gauri is making me lose on purpose!" Sahil whined to his favorite sister as his stupid older sister leaned back in achievement for crossing the finish line of the board game they were playing. "Why don't you call me Didi? I'm older than you, too!" Gauri argued.
Anika rolled her eyes with a small smile on her lips. These two were always out with their weapons, weren't they?
"Maybe I'd call you Didi if you were nice to me!" Sahil said, sticking his tongue out. "Psh, as if I'm selling you to the first person who would want you."
Sahil and Anika both raised their eyebrows at Gauri. Sahil was the one to speak. "We both know you wouldn't take even that much effort. You'd probably chuck me out the window if Ma and Didi weren't here to stop you," Sahil said as he crossed his arms across his chest. Gauri lightly smacked the back of his head. "Idiot," she muttered with a small smile while rubbing where she hit. Sahil pretended to huff and look away, but Anika saw his lips slowly curl into a smile.
Anika chuckled at these two siblings of hers. Despite their proclamations to hate one another to the moon and back, they loved each other to Jupiter and back.
More than that, they loved her, and that was all she could have ever wanted. Unlike her rather religious sister and aunt, Anika didn't like God, let alone worship Him. He had taken away her Mumma-Papa and turned her into an orphan. However, she didn't hate Him, because he had given her Gauri and Sahil.
Those two were her best friends, her confidantes, and her first children. Anika was young when her parents had died, but Gauri was younger. While Anika had the memories along with the stories of their parents, Gauri had just the stories. For Gauri, Didi meant Ma. Because it was not Avantika who had slapped the boys at school who teased her. It was Anika. It was not Avantika who cradled her and put her to sleep when she couldn't. It was Anika.
For Sahil, Anika was like Supergirl. Despite his age, he was not an oblivious child. He saw Anika get insulted for being an orphan. He saw her begrudgingly wake up in the wee hours of the morning to prepare his tiffin, and then go to work to pay his and Gauri's fees. He saw her come home with tired eyes, but a smile on her face to avoid getting everyone concerned. Who else could do that, apart from Supergirl?
And the thing was, Anika was unbeknownst to these thoughts. She knew she was important to her siblings, but just how much, she could never fathom.
