The sun rose on a new day, perky lifted their head reluctantly off of their desk, looking at the papers and open books in front of them, they continued what they had been working on for years now, trying to find someone

When there was a soft knock on the door, perky stood and rubbed any evidence they had just been sleeping off their face and opened the door

"Hello?" perky asked worriedly "oh hello! I wanted to give you this!" The elderly woman from the day before was now at the door, they then opened the door completely and saw the woman holding a fruitcake neatly wrapped in plastic.

"Oh! Thank you so much! Would you like to come in?" they asked, "yes! If you don't mind" she said timidly "of course not, come in" perky said while opening the door to allow her in.

"This home is very old, yes?" she questioned the taller person "I guess so, i'm not too sure my husband had found it" they sighed "your husband? Is that who that is on the wall?" she asked "no that's my spouse, me and my husband used to be in the picture before..but something happened" they said the last part was a bit hushed.

The woman realized it was a touchy subject, "oh my apologies for asking." she placed the cake in her hands on a table "no worries" perky smiled. They chatted for a while, perky found out she was the wife to the grouchy old man from the previous day, and she had 3 children that were also there with her

"It was lovely speaking to you!" perky said as they stood with her at the door "my goodness same to you!" she smiled kindly "i'll be on my way home then" she spoke stepping down the porch steps "goodbye!" perky called "bye" she responded and was on her way

Perky turned and head back into their home, they looked at the weathered walls, old floorboards, and the rotting wood at the corners of the walls, their life was dangerously close to miserable, with the lack of sleep and food, they couldn't even afford a livable home, they sighed and head out to their porch, sitting on their old rocking chair and opening a small locket attached to a silver chain

They smiled and tears threatened to fall as they looked at the familiar faces of their past loves, the inside of the locket was lined thinly with gold paint, the faces of the ones they had lost was the only reason they continued to search, in that moment, they remembered the day that determined it all

"Tubbo! What are you burning?!" maven ran to the kitchen as arlo was cooking, "it's not me i'm not burning anything!" he said frantically as the household fire alarm blared throughout the house, perky reached up and turned off the fire alarm "of course it's you tubs where else would the smoke be coming from?" perky questioned "i don't kn-" the short man stopped mid sentence to let out a scream, looking towards their living room, an enormous flame was in their home, blocking the exit.

The three were shocked but moved quickly natsue hurried to open the kitchen window, but once they had gotten it open, they found it was barricaded, they looked to perky who had come from the other side of the house "the windows are blocked!" perky shouted "we know!" Natsue replied in a panic.

"Wait our painting! I need to get it!" tubbo shouted, ripping off a curtain to be able to get through the flames "wait tubbo stop!" perky shouted, running towards him. They stopped at the flame, but being able to see tubbo "tubbo!!....TUBBO!" natsue shouted, then began to cough, they were both inhaling too much smoke, the looked around to find a way out, but there were no signs of escaping, until suddenly a wall fell, leaving a perfect way to escape.

Natsue was still trying to find a way into the flames to get to tubbo, but they were just getting burned, "natsue we need to go!" perky shouted to the other, who was on their knees trying to at least see their significant other, but to no avail "we can't leave him!" natsue shouted, but the reality of the situation hit them, and they decided to run out with perky.

A minute or two pass, and there are already people gathered by the house, perky and natsue stand feet from the open wall, holding each other as natsue cries and perky holds back tears.

"Help..!" tubbo shouted from inside, reaching out, not being able to see, natsue and perky rushed towards him but a second too late, a house support then fell and impaled tubbo, trauma and pain filled his expression as his body went limp

Perky and natsue stood in pure shock, screams erupted from the crowd behind them, whereas natsue was still in shock, with tears slowly running down their face, and perky still with their eyes shut tightly, to not see what had just happened to their partner.

Finally, natsue stood and started towards the nearby woods, walking quickly. Perky followed after them, calling out their name and telling them to stop, but they never did, they were not stopping, their stride was determined and forced. Eventually, perky lost sight of natsue, they screamed their name, but there was never a response. Perky fell to their knees

Realizing all they had just lost

Perky opened their tear filled eyes and looked back to the locket in their hands, smiling at the picture of the ones they had lost, then closed the locket and wiped their eyes.
They stood and head back inside, back to reading and searching

For natsue.
