As I walked toward the wide oak cabin, thick in dust I let out a long sigh. I knew it. This summer was gonna kick my ass. I was far away from cooling in the hamptons. I was here, across the country with my sister and her boyfriend. For some reason my selfish mother made me come here. But I know that's not true. She's sacrificed everything for me and now.....now I'm being ungrateful. I realise that. It still doesn't make me want to be here all the same....
I sigh and shake my head as if to physically force all the thoughts out of my head. I need to make the best of this....for moms sake.
I walk through the wooden door fully, and immediately a woody scent attacks my nostrils. My fingers trace the soft bedding of the single bed in the middle of the room. It's cozy. I drop my suitcase on the floor. It's way too hot to sit here and unpack.
I unzip my suitcase and fish out my blue bikini. It's time to hit the beach.

The hot California sun hits my skin as soon as my feet touch the sand. Maybe this summer won't be so bad. The beach is packed, swarmed by teenagers. I try to discreetly find a space without being spotted.I wade through the sea of bodies and spy a space with soft looking sand, just the right distance away from the sea. The sand squishes through my toes as I walk towards the spot, the sea breeze providing some relief from the heat.
Just as I'm sitting down, a shadow casts over. What the-
I look up. Great. So much for staying hidden.
"Hey, are you new around here?" A kind looking blonde girls asks.
Well, I kinda need some friends right now.
"Hi, I'm Ally and yes-", I nod awkwardly " I'm new for the summer" I smile as friendly as I can.
The blonde girl smiles at me again.
"Well great! I'm Cassie! Welcome! " she chirps.
"Thanks" I reply, and move my gaze back to the sea.
"Do you want me to show you around?" She says warmly. She seems nice.
"Yeah, that would be great" I say gratefully. She extends a hand and I lift myself up.
"Ok so, first things first-" she claps her hands together, "we'll start with the basics"
"Sounds good, where are we going?"
"Oh no, we don't need to move off the beach" she says in a 'duh' tone.
"What?" I ask confusedly.
"The area is easy! It's the people you need coaching on!" She explains with a devious look in her blue eyes. I open my mouth to ask more, but quickly shut it when a group of girls rushes over to us.
"Hey Cass! Who's the fresh meat?" A raven haired girl jokes. Cassie laughs.
"Girls this is Ally, Ally this is Lucy, Elena and Lola! Girls play nice" she playfully reprimands. They all laugh softly.
"Have you explained yet?" Elena, the brunette asks curiously. Cassie shakes her head, her blonde hair spilling over her shoulders.
"She's here for the entire summer, so she needs to know" she replies. Okay, now I'm confused.
"She is right here" I say irately. They give me a sheepish look.
"Calm your panties and sit down!" Lola orders, her long raven hair flipped over her shoulder.
I give her a dry look, but sit down in the sand. They all sit next to me and we form a circle.
"Okay, what is it I need to know so bad?" They sighed as I spoke, and the they gestured to the large crowd of teenagers going crazy the other side of the beach.
"You see them?"
"Yes" my eyebrows mashed together in confusion,
"What do they look like to you?" Lucy asked. Is that a trick question?
"You seem confused" Cassie stated.
I give her a dry look.
"Ok let me spell it out for you, the group down the beach are-"
"A group of teenagers" I interjected.
"Close" Elena nudged. Ok, now I'm definitely confused.
"Sheep" Lucy explained. I think I should probably leave....
"You know follow the leader" Cassie tried.
"Ok, I think I get what you mean" I say finally.
"And what do all sheep need?" Lola asked dramatically.
"Grass?" I said sarcastically.
"No!" she scolds, " a king!" We all stare at her for a moment.
"Lola honey, I think you mean shepherd" Cassie corrects slowly. Lola turns pink as our laughter booms.
"There's always one....and it's always Lola!" Elena snickers, whilst shaking her head.
"Anyway, there's always a leader in a large crowd-" Lucy starts,
"And in Cisco Beach that is-"
"JAKE ANDERSON IS SO HOT!!" Cassie is interrupted by the squealing of practically every girl on the beach.
"Jake Anderson..." Lola mutters, and all of the girls turn and look in one direction. What are they looking a-woah. Even my thoughts just stopped . That's how good looking he is. Jake Anderson.
