Caged Dog

The caged dog barks for freedom,
But it's throat is dried and sore.
It screams in a coarse tone,
But is unheard and left alone.

The free dog bounds about
In the open fields,
Chasing mice, rabbits and squirrels.

But still the caged dog is trapped,
In its grey, gloomy home
Dreaming of a better life,
But something it can only wish for.

And now the free dog is tired
After all the running and jumping.
But still the caged dog is crying,
Waiting to join in.

The sky is getting dark
And the air is getting cold.
But still the caged dog lies there
Staring through the bars, gazing at the stars.
