"You're that person in my life who I never knew I needed, until I got you." She spoke looking at him with an admiring smile.
"What if we never met?" He asked slowly.
"What is meant to be, will get through in any way, no matter what we do." She said with that smile of hers, and he mirrored it while he glanced at her.
"Zayaan...." She called him softly, and his sight shifted towards her again. "Promise to never lie to me. I can tolerate anything but not lies. You remember how we were bound in this marriage? If any day you don't feel the way I do for you, tell it to me, but don't lie."
"I can try to live with your memories, but not with the lie of you loving me, and with a sense of betrayal." She continued.
He froze at her words. He knew at this point he can't live without her, and what he feels for her, but telling the truth would do nothing but ruin their relationship.
"Okay!" Was all that he could say.
That okay meant, no promise to what she had asked for. And yet after that she was left with his betrayal, and it was intolerable for her. She could stay with the good memories of their relationship but not with the same memories questioning his love for her.
He very much wished he had told her the truth earlier. He just didn't want to see the day when she wouldn't be around, when she wouldn't complain of him, not spending time with her, being so workaholic. He just regretted the decision of not telling the truth to her.
After all, a painful truth is better than a convincing lie.
Walking down the corridor she walked out towards the garden. The day being the same as it was for everyone else, but for her it felt different. It was the place which made it that way.
Never had she thought she would come back. No matter how much she knew she wouldn't be able to live away from him, she still knew she didn't want to come back.
It was hard, very hard indeed.
"Aayat!" His voice froze her. It wasn't the first time she felt this way when he called her.
Earlier, she would wait to hear her name from him, because that would be the reason for the smile on her face. But now she wished to not hear him talk about her ever. She was broken.
Lies was already something she could never take, but this time the person who lied, was the one who she loved the most, she felt betrayed every second he was around her.
"I will drop you to the hospital?" He continued.
"I will take a cab!" She replied.
"Aayat....c-can we give our relationship a c-chance?" He asked looking at her, while she turned back.
"Lies and love can't be together Zayaan. I wished you had told me things before, it would have been easy for me to come back maybe. It started with a revenge, continued with my sister's death, and now with the end to our story. Or maybe, this story had never even started for you, to come to an end now." She spoke walking past him, and he turned back to face her.
"Trust me Aayat! I know I was very late, to let you know the truth, and also to realize what I felt for you."
"Trust. That's exactly what I can't do. I have no will left in me anymore Zayaan. I can't just get back to you, forgetting everything that had happened? Can I get my sister back? No!" She said coldly.
He was left with no words once again. He very well knew his words or his apology would be of no help to him, but he kept trying.
As of her, she wasn't over him completely, nor did she want to be. It was indeed very difficult for her, and she didn't want to stay away. But she had to. She loved him, and yes, it was the same love which has bought her here, which was so hurting to her every single day.
She had expected a lot from life, but life was too unexpected for it.
