It's been nearly a month since I've been with Emmett. I discovered Emmett after the world had fallen apart. I'd just gotten away from a mutated wolf when I came to his base. He literally tackled me and pushed me against the window's underside wall. As that beast grumbled outside, he hushed me with his palm over my mouth and held me to the ground.
That was a month ago... things have changed since then.
I lay awake in the makeshift bed, despite the fact that we usually had our separate beds, we had to share during the winter. For the previous week, I've been able to sleep in it alone while waiting for Emmett to return from a hunt.
I turn around as I hear the base door creak. Emmet stood with bags stuffed with belongings, dropped them, and silently shut the door behind him. In a matter of seconds, I was sprinting towards him. As I desperately reached for him, our bodies collided.
"Woah!" As his arms wrap around me, he says. He never lets go of me as he slides down the wall. "Do you think I've forgotten about you?"
I grab him tightly and mutter, "I thought you were dead."
"I said I'd be back in a couple of days," he mocks, rubbing my back.
"But the storm."
"I was more worried about you, did you remember to do everything I showed you?"
"Yes, I did! Yes, I did!" I rise to my feet, clutching his damaged hands. "Even so, survivors-"
"What? Survivors? Did they track you down?"
"No, no. I kept everything closed, I loaded the gun and stood waiting." I say, extremely proud of myself.
"I also came across a survivor. She was extremely thrilled," he sighs, running his hand through his unkempt hair.
My stomach started to boil with jealousy. I nod and grin as I assist him in removing his matted clothing. He had a scent of snow, mud, and blood. I toss his clothes into the laundry basket near the washer, take the few medical supplies we have and turn to face him. He'd already been patched up. I clench my teeth and inhale deeply.
"Get some rest, and I'll start cleaning your clothing." I smile as I walk over to the basket.
He stops me from washing his clothing and says, "Everything alright?"
"Did you spend a long time with her?" I muttered under my breath, my gaze fixed on my hands.
"What?"
"Did you stay in her house for a long time?" I inquire a little louder.
"Three days," he says. "Are you offended I stayed with another woman?" he asks, grabbing my face and forcing me to look at him.
"Why should I be bothered? We're not even a thing. It's the end of the world, after all." I'm ashamed by my own jealousy, so I joke "I was simply terrified. An excursion that should have taken three days took a week. I can't do this by myself."
I tear myself away and seize his filthy garments, submerging them in the water. His muscular bulk casts a shadow over me, and he doesn't move from behind me. I've only seen him this exposed twice before, and both times I've had to patch him up. I mutter as I pick through the wash. His hand roughly grips my face as he yanks me back to stare at him. His lips collide with mine, and he pulls me up to his face before rising. On the tips of my toes, I stand.
He picks me up by sliding his hand under my thighs. I encircle his waist with my legs. I've wanted to wrap my arms around his neck since the minute he tackled me. He drew me closer, but I looked away when I noticed the lipstick stain on his neck.
