Chapter4. The"Secret"

The next morning, Hailie couldn't stop thinking about what happened last night. She was waiting for Sadie in the parking lot and her mind was running 10 miles per hour. Their eyes were glowing. They were glowing pink.

After the glowing moment, when she woke up, Bryan drove her home without a word. In fact, Hailie asked him if she was going to see him again, or did he had any idea what this meant, and Bryan didn't answer. When they arrived at her house, he simply smiled and said he had a lovely night with her. Hailie was so confused. She didn't know what that meant. She really wanted to know what was going on, and she knew for a fact that Bryan knew lots of things.

She saw Sadie and Walter walking toward her. Sadie was laughing about something, but when she saw Hailie she smirked and ran toward her.

"Hey you, sorry if we were late," she turned her head toward Walter and said: "can I pleeeeaaase tell her?" she was giving him her best puppy eyes. Now Hailie was curious. Sadie never, NEVER, asked for permission for telling her something.

Walter rolled his eyes and squished Sadie in his arms: "can you chill sunshine? I knew I shouldn't have told you about it."

Sadie looked at him innocently: "but come on, she is my best friend. I SHOULD TELL HER!"

"but puppy, this is not your secret to tell," Walter said as he gently stroked Sadie's hair.

"but-but it's not going to be a secret for a long time." Sadie pouted.

"no bub, you have to be patient with this one."

And that apparently was the final decision. Which Hailie was not happy about. "just so you know. I'M RIGHT HERE."

" hi Hailie, looking angry standing there." Sadie giggled.

Hailie huffed and turned to Walter: "are you kidding me? You let her have sugar in the morning again?"

" I had to. or she would tell you and ruin everything."

"tell me WHAT?"

"Sorry, it's a secret."Walter looked sorry.

"I'm so done with you two and your secret," Hailie said and crossed her arms while sending daggers toward Walter with her eyes.

Sadie hit her head:" hey asshole stop talking to my handsome boyfriend like that. And yes, he bought me a strawberry milkshake with strawberry pie." and she stuck her tongue at her.

Hailie really wanted to argue and nag about the fact that she has to deal with her the whole day because Walter was older than them and he was with Sadie only in break times. But instead, she nodded her head and started to walk toward the door. Both Sadie and Walter were shocked by that but decided not to say anything, considering that maybe she was having one of those stupid headaches again.

Hailie indeed had a headache. But the reason wasn't Sadie's stupid burst of energy. It was because she was thinking again. just mentioning "strawberry" made her think about Bryan again. She couldn't stop herself. She needed an answer.

Her classes went by really fast. She wasn't paying attention and she just tried to contain Sadie's sugar rush most of the time. When the bell announced the lunch break, she was relieved. She grabbed her backpack and Sadie's hand and marched toward the cafeteria. As soon as she spotted Walter, she pushed Sadie toward him and sat down at the table, putting her forehead on the table.

"well hello to you too." she heard Walter with an annoying laugh in his tone.

She lifted her head, Giving Walter her best glare:" you, ASSHAT. you know she gets hyped and everything, and you STILL BUY HER SUGAR IN THE MORNING? WHEN YOU DONT HAVE A SINGLE CLASS WITH HER ALL GODDAMN DAY?" at this point she had her finger pointed in Walter's face.

Walter arched an eyebrow:" why are you so mad about it? You used to buy her candy so you could laugh at her."

Hailie growled and let her head fell onto the table again. She could hear Sadie and Walter talking.

"is she mad at me? Am I making you feel ashamed? Oh god, I should stop eating sugar in the morning." Hailie could literally hear the pout in her voice.

"no puppy she is not mad at you, I think she is just tired." he kissed her forehead and continued:" why should I be ashamed? I am so lucky to have you in my life, and you look so cute when you're having a sugar rush." and of course he started kissing her. Hailie could hear the sound of it. And nobody needed to know if she wanted something like this. Not that she wasn't enjoying her loneliness, she was just tired of being on her own forever. her thoughts were cut by the lovebirds.

"oh god, I really love you babes" ok. That was it. Hailie lifted her head and said:" God I'm tired of third-wheeling with you two. you are so annoying and, You two are making me feel soooo single-"

"well I'm here to make you less single''

"hey man. You finally decided to join us?" Walter said as he hugged Sadie, who looked excited." Hi Bryan, you finally came!"

Hailie raised her eyebrow at their conversation. Since when did they get so close?

Bryan smiled at her:" I said I will come didn't I ? I keep my words. May I sit with you ?" he told Hailie the last part.

Hailie simply nodded and turned toward Walter and Sadie:" why didn't you two tell me about him coming here? Cause you obviously knew he was coming." she was annoyed that they didn't tell her. She felt left out and was ready to make a big fuss about it.

But before she could start anything, Bryan sent her one of his gorgeous smiles and said:" that is my fault. I wanted to surprise you. And ask you something, if you don't mind."

Hailie froze. She knew what was coming. He wanted to ask her about her power and the glowing thingy. So she waited for Walter and Sadie to leave. She got a little confused when Walter bumped Bryan's shoulder with a "good luck" and a " please don't kill him " toward her.

"look. I know what you want to ask and let me say I have no idea how it happened, it had nev-"

"hey hey calm down. That's not why I came here."

"then why are you here?"

Bryan took a deep breath:" Strawberry, will you go out with me?"
