t/w: violence, blood, death, all that wonderful stuff

cries of rage and the clashing of metal filled the tiresome dawn light. the siege had lasted all night, and every single warrior was exhausted. adrenaline and their will to survive fuelled them onwards, yet more than a few men withered under the continued exertion that had lasted since dusk. unforgiving, the enemy's army had engulfed the kingdom's forces, outnumbering them. nevertheless, they had relentlessly fought like lions before the masked opponents.

"felix, to your right!" changbin yelled, just as a rival appeared out of nowhere behind the blonde.

the younger slashed and sliced with his weapons of choice: two long silver daggers, engraved with intertwined roses and embossed with pearls and diamonds at the handles. as soon as the foe retreated, he turned to face changbin.

"thanks," he murmured, crouching low into the higher grass, gaze swivelling around cautiously.

"thank me later, yongbok," he replied, adjusting his grip on his sword, "just get out of this mess alive, okay?"

"i promise," felix nodded, gulping down water from his canteen. despite the chaos surrounding them, the blonde couldn't help but admit how good-looking his friend was in his outfit.

a sleeveless vermillion silk shirt covered his built torso, accentuating his voluptuous arm muscles and complementing his silver hair. his ebony leather pants flattered his legs and brought attention to all of his assets.

felix was wearing a similar outfit, with a black and white embroidered wrap-around shirt, and dark leather gloves to protect his hands from his knifes.

"i'll meet you back here in a while, okay?" changbin pounced out of their hiding spot in the grass onto an unsuspecting opponent.

after a few well-placed strikes, changbin managed to render his rival powerless, and he charged down the hill in search for new adversaries. one was heading straight towards him, a scowl distorting his facial features. with a run up and a leap of faith, he threw his weight forward into a hand stand, locking his knees on either side of their head, his legs on both shoulders, using his momentum to bring the enemy back onto the ground. without hesitation, he slit their throat, blood spurting all over his hands and forearms.

the silver-haired warrior let his gaze run over his surroundings, resting it on his next victims. dodge, slice, punch, swerve, slash, jab, and kick. one down, two more to go.

a piercing shriek carved through the thick air, instantaneously freezing the blood in changbin's veins. he'd never heard anything like it, but he could recognise that voice from anywhere.

with a few half-hearted slashes, he finished off his opponents and turned to where the heartbreaking sound had emitted from.

felix was lying on his side a few feet away, an arrow sticking out from his chest. he heaved and fought for air in pure panic, eyes desperately searching for changbin. yongbok had thrown himself in front of his friend heartbeats before the feathered arrow would've maimed changbin.

the older fell to his knees beside his friend, trembling hands cupping pale cheeks.

"y-yongbokie," he whispered, tears running down his face uncontrollably, "yongbokie look at me! don't stop looking at me, don't you dare die on me today!"

"changbin stop," he rasped, coughing up oozing red, "please...stop.  you can't save me, it's too late."

"no it's not, i can fix this," he scrambled up, carrying his friend to the grassy patch, "i can get the arrow out—shit, it's gone through your heart—and then we'll get you a medic, it's going to be fine, everything's going to be fine."

"binnie," felix croaked, voice get weaker by the second, "i wasn't kidding last night, before the sirens of war began. when i said that i loved you. when i said that i wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. when i said that you were the reason i was still living and breathing. it's only fair that i return the favour."

"shut up, you promised you wouldn't die," changbin put a finger on his lips, "shut up!"

"never," he growled, shrugging the finger off, "some promises are made to be broken, just like our hearts have been torn apart by the fear of the unknown. i love you changbin, more than i ever would've thought possible."

"i-i love you too," he choked out, leaning down to close the gap between their chapped and bloodstained lips, tears mixing on their cheeks.

changbin felt felix heave a sigh of relief, then slowly relax in his embrace, eyelids fluttering shut, lips cooling beneath his.

"no," he shook him furiously, desperately attempting to jolt him awake, "NO!"

a chilling wail of grief resounded from the hill, piercing the hearts of every warrior in the vicinity, provoking most to drop their weapons and cover their ears in dismay.
