"GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!"

The trio cringed at the noise, as the blonde girl plopped down at her spot in the dining table. She hurriedly grabbed two pieces of bread and put some cream cheese on one of them, before making it into her signature sandwich with a slice of tomato.

"Good morning Em," her mother greeted. Emily nodded through a full mouth already, watching the woman that raised her. She was often asked as a kid if the fact she was raised in a family of people of color made her feel strange, but she was glad it was that way.

Firstly, she realized very young she was adopted. Secondly, she saw how dark skinned people were treated at the seemingly modern world, one that claimed racism to be a matter of the old times. And most importantly; there could never be a better adopting family.

"Are you sure you want to go to that weird school again?" Her father asked. She raised her eyes to the man that protected her from anything, and smiled. The warrior against random noises and the one that taught her not to fear bugs. She swallowed the bite, and nodded.

"I know it's weird, and last year was a mess- but Hogwarts is really cool."

"Wasn't there a giant snake that almost killed you?" Jack, her little brother asked. He was a picture perfect boy, with bright blue eyes and a perfectly soft blonde hair, and his mind was even  brighter than his smile.

"Almost," Emily reminded. "Almost is no big deal."

"It kind of is a big deal."

"Meh," she shrugged, and a sudden glint in her necklace caught her eyes. "See? Selenite agrees with me," she smiled, and the white selenite hanging from her neck sparkled again. "Selenite is never wrong."

"I don't know, Emily... You're starting second year, and you're still all over the place. Your Professor even sent out letters about how you have to use your wooden wand, because your crystals are not actual wands."

"Of course they are," Emily huffed. On each of her fingers was a ring that held another crystal, and she had multiple crystals on each of her bracelets. "Each of them holds its on energy, and they are far stronger than those wood stuff. That's why they use cores of other creatures. I bet you if wizards went for crystal wands they'd be stronger by far. Like me."

"Your self glorification is showing again," Jack noted, and she blew raspberries.

"It's called self confidence."

"Better to just be normal." Jack shrugged, and she grinned.

"I'm unique, and I'll be unique 'till the day I die."

"Hey Emily!" A voice greeted, and she nodded towards the blonde. Luna Lovegood was named the strangest girl in Hogwarts school for Witchcraft, and many people believe Emily was second to her. But while Luna was always living in her own world, Emily was always very present and sharp, which caused people to never ridicule her, and always ridicule Luna (when Emily wasn't around).

"How was summer?" Emily slurred as her parents questioned whether or not there was everything she needed in the trunk.

"Fine, yours?"

"Lit," Emily winked. She turned around, watching as Jack walked over to a certain red haired family. "Oh hell," she mumbled, her cheeks flushing. "I'll see you later babes," she told Luna, who learned to accept the fact Emily called her that.

"Jack!" she warned as he fluttered his eyelashes at Ginny Weasley, and before-long Ginny threw her arms around Emily, who blushed furiously at the tight embrace. "Hi G-Ginny, wuddup?"
