Nova noted right away that he'd been inside this particular surgical suite before. It was the one he was in for the insemination, and a good look around the rather large room filled him with a faint sense of nostalgia that only added to his excitement. Dr. Ali and Julia were inside, making their arrangements for the procedure.
"Jules will be assisting me today," Gabriel said upon entering the room. "With more experience in plastic surgery, she'll ensure my work is adequate."
"Don't worry, it'll be more than adequate," Julia smiled at Nova as he made his way over to the table. "You're in good hands."
Nova was visibly excited as he laid down. His grin was slight, but his earthy eyes were positively beaming. He acknowledged them both with meaningful looks and enjoyed it as he was rigged up to the room's monitoring equipment.
Gabriel delicately lifted each of his shoulders to place an electrode on either one on his back, then pulled the hospital garment to his waist to place a third on his left side, near the edge of his ribcage. Another two were placed near his hips, over the femoral arteries. At the same time, Julia pulled a cuff onto his right bicep and clipped a pulse oximeter on the opposite hand. The beeping of the heart monitor resonated throughout the operating room soon after, and the trace showed Nova's excited—but normal—heartbeat. Gabriel activated something on the table's console as the rest of his vitals filled out:
HR: 86 BPM
SP02: 99%
SYS: 120
DIA: 78
TEMP: 37C / 98.6F
RR: 14"I know I told you this before, when you first broached the subject," Gabriel said as the table's sides slowly extended outward and brought Nova's arms with it, "but we'll be draining these beforehand, to create the postnatal sustenance that'll keep the infant alive."
Nova tensed when he squeezed his swollen tits for emphasis. "How could I forget?"
"Yeah, I know," he flashed a smile before moving away to grab more supplies. "But we just gotta make sure that you know what you're here for. Speaking of, what are we doing after that?"
"A bilateral mastectomy," he said after he suppressed a clever comment about having sex. He then turned his attention to his hand; Dr. Ali was feeling for a vein to insert the port.
"Good."
"Okay, Nova, you're just going to feel a little prick..." she said, just before she stuck him with a sharp. He noticed that she seemed to be more like her usual self; her voice lilted a little more naturally than it had been in pre-op, and she generally seemed more level-headed and present.
"Ow..." Nova's face contorted. "That kinda hurt..."
"You'll forget all about that pain in a second," Gabriel replied when he returned to his side. He eased a thick-hosed silicone mask onto his face and stepped away again.
It was a heavy stream of oxygen, and it relaxed him almost immediately—so much so that the pain in his hand faded to a barely-there dull ache after a few seconds, and it had him wondering if there was something other than oxygen in the mask right now.
Nova zoned back in when he felt something cupping each of his breasts. He looked down and saw two semi-opaque cylindrical columns that were morphing to fit his particular shape. He looked over to see where their tubes ended and saw that they were connected to a sample analyzer box, like a larger version of the one he saw in the pre-insemination procedure. He wanted to squirm and tried very hard to stifle it, but he couldn't help a visibly intense shiver as the devices tightened around his tits.
