𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐰𝐨 ㅡ
the cantonese song

you came to a halt leaning against the elevator wall due to the sound of the elevator ding. of course, you'd be all by yourself. the majority of the people who live in the green home apartments are already sleeping. it was already the 15th floor, which was your floor number, the last floor. you strolled down the corridor after stepping out. only the sound of your high heels could be heard until awhile.

"yeah, i was chosen for the position. i've been taking good care of my hands " a female's voice could be heard, the tone of her voice sounds excited and proud. the woman who lives directly in front of you was on the phone with someone who you assume a friend. you, on the other hand, kept walking towards your room.

"y/n," she called making you stop and turn around to face her. "he brought in another girl" she said, holding her phone away from her ear. you kept your head down and didn't say anything.  she seemed to notice the girls he comes with, the girl continuously mentions daeho because of that. after taking a few steps, an unfamiliar female exited your flat; as she walked past you, you kept your eyes on her.

she was a stunning woman. maybe he met her in a bar, or something. you noticed her makeup was stained and her dress wasn't put on properly as you watched her. it was obvious what they'd just done. as you began to feel irritated, your hold on your purse tightened, and you continued walking to your apartment room, inhaling sharply. you return your gaze to seyoung, the girl on the phone, as she stands in front of her door with her palm on her nose. walking in through the door, unconcerned about seyoung, and see a shirtless daeho on the bed, smoking a cigarette. daeho, your boyfriend of a few years started bringing other girls home from work while you were gone. your on-again, off-again relationship with daeho is well-known among the locals. because the apartments at green home aren't as nice, practically everything is audible to neighbors.

daeho could see your rage as he looked you in the eyes. you toss your handbag on the bed and stare at him, disgusted. "you're nasty," you remark as you cross your arms. "you do the same," he responded, making you scoff. "leave." you say. at first, daeho chose to ignore your words while he smoked his cigarette. "do i have to say it again? i said get out!" you yelled, raising your voice and pointing to the door, angered by his attitude. this always happens, when you're both not in a good mood. daeho eventually stood up and put on his clothes. he walked out of the flat without even giving you a second glance.

as you heard the door close, your eyes welled up. he left you alone in the shared apartment once more, glancing back at the closed door. you felt a pain in your chest, daeho is the only one who can help you with your loneliness. taking a deep breath you held back your tears looking forward taking a look at the apartment.

the room in your apartment had a lot of dark hues in it, but it was predominantly red. when you first go into the flat, you'll notice the bed and the square television in the corner of the wall directly in front of it. because there was no headboard on the bed, the television was placed on a rectangular table that connected the wall and the bed. the kitchen was located beside the room, while the bathroom was located in a separate room. the bedroom doubled as a living room. in comparison to other flats, the shared apartment is quite small. because the flat isn't constantly clean, it appears to be crowded most of the time. though the apartment isn't particularly large, it was quite crowded. the space has an antique feel to it.

you sat in your bed, empty and lonely. staring at the CD player and the CDs on the shelf next to the television. taking your favorite CD with the cantonese song. SHIRLEY KWAN, FORGET HIM. the fascinating melody flooded your ears once you put the CD in the player. you enjoyed the cantonese song you discovered after one of your jobsㅡ and when you discovered the words, you liked it even more. so you took the CD and it's still in your possession. you can relate to the lyrics. daeho is too important to overlook.

you're grateful for the job you did because you wouldn't know this song if it hadn't been for it. the cantonese song should be familiar to the occupants of the units. they hear it whenever you're upset or have an argument with daeho.

you felt the want to cry as you smoked the cigarette in your hand. so you cried. you wept all night in bed so your masquera was all smudged. you continued to smoke the cigarette while crying, simply thinking about him. even though you were certain the residents could hear you crying, it didn't matter. daeho, all that mattered to you was him. what would you do if you didn't have daeho?

without him, your life would be meaningless. you wouldn't be happy if he wasn't there. he is the only one who can help you. the one person who has the ability to make you happy and feel good about yourself. That's why you liked the cantonese song so much: it accurately reflected how you felt and what you needed to forget. you must forget about him. you can't, however, forget him. and he understands that you can't live without him, that you can't forget him.
