William Ames sat in his chair once again finding himself in math class. It was a normal boring day. Math continued William got even more bored by the second. Minutes felt like hours and he was sick of sitting in this math class. An idea came to his mind. He would ask to go to the bathroom but he was only gonna go there to use his phone. With this brilliant idea, he raised his hand. But just as he did so Mrs. Dorin asked a question. "who can tell me how many halves are in three halves?" Will still had his hand raised being spaced out thinking about what he would do on his phone when he heard "Oh will you want to answer this question?". Will was broken out of his trance when he heard his name "what?" he stated confused. "answer my question please". Will sat there shocked that he had let his hand stay up in the air. He had to come up with something and he had to come up with it quickly. "U-um I just ne-needed to use the bat-bathroom" shame and embarrassment flustered him as now the entire class was looking in his direction. "Answer my question first, how many halves are in three halves?" Mrs. Dorin spat out these words. The words hit William like a truck. William knew he didn't have a choice so he began thinking 'so if there are 3 the 3 x 2 is 6 divided by 2 is 3 then 3 x 4 is 12 and 12 divided by 2 is 6'. He gasped this was the answer without a second thought he shouted "6!". His voice echoed throughout the room silence was the only sound. Mrs. Dorin repeated the question raising her voice, "will. How many HALVES are in THREE HALVES". Will sat confused reevaluating the situation. He sat and thought for another moment before confusedly squeaking out "7?" Once again Mrs. Dorin repeated, "how many halves are in THREE HALVES". This time she was nearly shouting making will start thinking even harder about how he could've gotten this question. He sat thinking for almost 5 minutes feeling the eyes of his peers pierce him. The pressure was on for William. Without a clue of what the right answer was he unconfidently said "10?" At this point, the only noises were slight coughs and the sounds of the halls until Mrs. Dorin shouted, "HOW MANY HALVES ARE IN THREE HALVES". Will sat conflicted and confused. Now the entire class sent him dirty looks and silence surrounded him. He was put on the spot. He thought for a second and decided he needed to say something. So he finally said "4". Mrs. Dorin had a stern look on her face as she walked out of the classroom. The students surrounding William burst out into sudden laughter but William did not find this funny. He sat confused as to how he got the question wrong. As the laughter died down everyone took the opportunity to talk to their friends. But Will continued to sit reflecting on his mistakes red with humiliation. After a good 20 minutes, Mrs. Dorin came back into the room settling the class. William never figured out what he did wrong.
