There's a lot of species in this fantasy world of mine, so here's a rundown of some of them. Probably will add a part 2, 3, etc.
~
Humans - An umbrella term, usually referring to people who do not fit any other species and cannot do magic. Can also be referred to as simply a group of people.
Elf - An umbrella term for people with pointed ears. Some people will be listed under 'elf' if they can't do magic and don't fit into any other species, but that doesn't happen very often.
Fae - A very loose term that's meaning seems to change every two minutes.
Spirits - An umbrella term about people who draw their power/magic from a certain course (ex. Moon spirits gain their magic from the moon, nature spirits get more powerful around nature, etc. etc.)
Witches - Any humanoid being with the ability to do any type of magic, from stuff as powerful as firebending to stuff as random as the ability to summon chairs. Although witches can train their abilities to do more types of magic, it's a long and tedious process (which I may add in a separate chapter?), so most of the time they'll find a way to make a living off of their natural powers, or just not use them in general. Since the only way to qualify as a witch is a natural ability to do magic, many witches also qualify as another species, such as demons or fairies.
Merpeople - Half-fish half-humanoid creatures that live mostly in open seas. Although most imagine merpeople to simply be humans with fish tails, there are less common instances of merpeople to have different combinations between human and fish, making them look almost half sea monster. Mermaids are the most common out of merfolk, although male and genderqueer merfolk aren't extremely rare, either. Merpeople are usually considered the sister species to sirens.
Sirens - There are several different types of sirens that inhabit almost any type of water, from open sea to beaches to rivers and lakes. The only qualification to be labeled as a siren is to live underwater and have a hypnotizing voice. Although many sirens will attempt to drown land-dwelling humanoids, they will eat fish and other underwater plants/animals if they can't lure anyone into the water. Some sirens refuse to eat humans at all, and find those who do disgusting. Sirens look very different from each other, based on what body of water they live in. Sirens from beaches look more similar to merfolk from sirens in open seas, and sirens in rivers look closer to lake sirens rather than sirens found in harbors or river deltas.
Shapeshifters - Humans with the ability to shift into an animal. Shapeshifting works differently for each person, but the one thing they all have in common is a main animal. Main animals are essentially the animal that is most natural for the shapeshifter to shift into, similar to witches' natural powers. Some shapeshifters can shift into a hybrid between their human and animal form, but it usually requires a lot of practice and could take up a lot of time. Shapeshifters can shift outside of their main animal, but the shifting process is uncomfortable and tedious, so most usually make do with their natural animal. Due to the similarities between witch magic and shapeshifting, many consider shapeshifting to be a subspecies of witch.
Angels - Humans with wings and halos. Although angels are born with naturally white wings, their wings will slowly turn black overtime. Although it hasn't been confirmed, since they all change colors at different paces, there have been rumors why- some think they represent how pure their soul is, others think it represents how many cruel acts the angel has done, and some even think it represents how long they have until they're supposed to die.
Demons - Beings with horns and a tail with that triangle-spiky thing at the end. Very, very rarely, demons are born with the ability to summon and/or control fire, but it's so rare that very few people know about it.

Worldbuilding go brrrr
FantasySo I have this story that I've been imagining in my head for at least a year and I wanted to have some of the worldbuilding written down so I don't screw it up. Then my brain was like: "Put it on Wattpad" "Why?" "You gotta" And here we are.
