A fucking stupid girl.
When he had gotten the call about the job, he had been hesitant. Some random rich asshole wanting to hire and bring together the best of the best – even though Mayfeld and Xi'an were two idiots. Good bounty hunters but stupid, and their friend and droid were just the same as they were. But the pay was good, and it had turned out to be a much easier job than the girl's father had made it out to be. Kohl had made it sound...Mando didn't know – impossible. The girl had barely put up a fight, other than her escapades of swallowing medicine and ripping wires from the wall. He had underestimated her. She did not seem the kind to fight face to face, she was just clever and did things quickly without him really noticing.
But still – stupid.
Mando had not heard her stir from up in the cockpit as he worked, and he could feel the temperature in the ship dropping steadily. He had a small space heater, which he was using to keep the kid warm, but it was not nearly big enough to warm all of them. He and the girl would freeze to death – the kid would eventually perish as well by himself floating in space. The girl had really fucked them royally without even having given it a second thought he supposed. And he resisted the urge to go drag her down – force her to fix it though he doubted she could either. From the looks of it she had simply grabbed the wires and yanked. Using the backup power to freeze her in the carbonite was tempting as well, but she had been so loud and fucking...
Well shrill was a good word.
"I can make you feel good."
Mando had expected something...else. A spoiled, entitled girl. The daughter of a wealthy crime lord. Nothing more. Self-centered and running away because her father did not give her what she wanted. A preconceived concept. But something was wrong with her. Something really wrong. The girl squirmed, went as far as to nearly kill herself and now to doom the lot of them on his ship just to avoid being returned to her father. Desperate or stupid. Either way it was insane. She was insane. And Mando was nothing more than a villain to her, and she could not be reasoned with. He should have shoved her in the carbonite.
Mando did not know why he didn't.
A spark flew out when he managed to reunited two of the wires. He heard a gentle whirl of the ship, not much as all but a step in the right direction and a step towards salvation at the very least. Backing away from freezing to death. Mando lowered his hand – checking the stats on the wall. The ship was pretty much dead in space besides the backup power. The one connection seemed to be booting the ship, but slowly. It would take at the very least seventy-two standard hours for them to regain enough power to travel again and stop floating. Mando groaned at the prognosis. He had enough supplies to ration, it would be the cold that would threaten them. Mando moved to the compartment in which the kid was safely snuggled inside and he opened it.
Grogu was curled into the blankets, the tiny heater warming him. He cooed upon the door opening, tilting his head up at Mando's helmet and Mando sighed before muttering, "Well kid...Looks like we're castaways for a few days. Stay in here and stay warm."
Mando grabbed a few rations, opening one and handing it to the child's awaiting hands, tiny and expectant as he grabbed on and began to stuff his face with the contents, clearly not turned away by the fact that they were dried food in a packet. Mando shut the door, to contain the heat in the little compartment, before he moved up the ladder towards the cockpit, readying himself to speak to the stupid girl once more. Trying to relax. She was difficult not to lose his temper with, she was in his space. Causing problems. The only thing motivating him at this point was the fact he would get the cuts meant for everyone now with the others gone.
