It was my last lecture before the Christmas break at the University I now called home. I hadn't been home all semester and I couldn't contain my excitement anymore. It was hard being away from home for such lengthy periods of time. My little brother could now drive and my Mum was becoming more addicted to reading Jamie Oliver cook books. I quickly finished packing a few outfits into a small duffle bag before leaving my room mate a note. I made my way to block 4, room 4.3; the same room I'd been attending now for two years. Studying Psychology was harder than it seemed. The writing, the observing, the listening and most of all the talking. I wasn't much of a people person but something drew me towards it. Maybe it was because I wanted to be what wasn't there for me and I wanted to help people with what they needed help with the most. As I walked in and took my seat, the students began to come in one by one followed by our Professor, who insisted we call him Damien. Mr Hamiltion or 'Damien' was a very intelligent yet eccentric man who knew a lot about the world and the people who have been put here. He is a converted Hindu who brings up karma and recarnation at least once every lecture. Through him, I've learnt that we all have a destiny we have to fulfil, whether it be by having a baby that has the cure to cancer or being divorced four times and becoming the seventh richest women alive. The lecture was over soon enough and after being told about Damiens plans to help out at the cat shelter on Christmas day we were finally dismissed and I was finally on my way home.

The journey to the train station wasn't a quick one, especially with snow coming early this winter. In order for me to catch the right train home and not end up on the other side on England, I had to catch 3 buses, one tram and walk a mile to finally be at the right platform. As I purchased my ticket and found myself a seat on platform seven I took out my journal and started observing what I saw around me. I could see happy people, sad people, people who looked happy but were actually sad, people who weren't themselves and a boy whose brown curls contrasted perfectly with him pale, yet warm skin. He was very intriguing and I wanted to know more. His jawline was sharp but his eyes were a soft green colour that had a warmth to them. He was dressed in black, from head to toe with the only ounce of colour on him coming from the whites of his shoe laces that were tied perfectly in a double knot. Perfectionist I thought to myself. He kept fiddling with his hands and checking the time impatiently on his wrist watch and would occasionally pull out his phone and check the time on there for reassurance. Agitated. He paced back and forth watching the people around him and for a moment his gaze was on stuck on me as I sat frozen, unsure of how to react. As I sat there I knew something wasn't right. The way he watched those around him, watching every movement as if he was planning something. The train still hadn't arrived due to the snow storm that hit the northern part of the city an hour before. As he slowly paced over to where I was seated, I noticed he had a gold chain that had a cross and a ring attached to it. When he noticed me looking at it he quickly slipped it under his thick sweater and walked back to where he had previously been standing. An elderly lady who had just walked in approached the three occupied seats and I quickly stood up offering my seat which she took thanking me before I walked to the guard who wasn't much help in telling me when the next train would arrive. The boy was now sat crossed-legged on the cold pavement with his head buried in his lap. I wanted to know what was going on in his head. Where he was going. What he was doing here. Who he was going to see. My phone quickly buzzed in my pocket distracting me from my thoughts. It was an old friend from high school wishing me a Merry Christmas and oh how I wished I could have ignored the sweet gesture and focused on this boy but I quickly typed back a polite thank you and an unpromising 'we should catch up for coffee soon' request. As I stood there motionless waiting for the train that never seemed to come, I watched him. Moments later I hear the carriages and as soon as they are near, he is gone. Then it hits me. I throw my duffle bag off my shoulder and run to the front of the platform as the carriages roll into the station. I am counting the seconds down in my head and there he was, positioned like a child about to run his 50 metre sprint in primary school sports carnival. On your marks...get set...Go. He leaps and starts running towards the edge of the platform. Everything freezes and my breathing is hitched. I turn my body to act as a barricade to him as he is unaware of my presence. He knocks me down leaving my body millimetres away from the concrete lining that acted as a barrier between life and death. As I looked up I can feel the wind provided from the still moving train blowing my loose curls up in a frizz covering face. He is laying on top of me, his face buried in my chest motionless as people from all over the station run to see what has happened. I squeeze my eyes shut as I felt a burning pain in my lower back and wince at the sudden pain. I look down at him and watch a tear drop fall from his left eye. He sits up, defeated and stares at me. "Why?" He asks barley a whisper. He looked up at me as he brought his hand down to my cheek to wipe away a single tear I was unaware had formed and was now falling down my cheek. His actions were soft and almost naive as he stood up and helped me up. I felt like I should be the one doing this. I just saved his life. I should be helping him but here he was standing above me gently lifting me into his arms cradling me like baby. I didn't have time to process the situation that had just occurred before a number of security guards and paramedics rushed to us. I looked up at him, his face emotionless and drained from any colour that was once there. I thought back to five minutes before when my life was what I thought to be normal and now here I am in the arms of a stranger who's life I just saved.

I was placed in the arms of a paramedic who rushed me to an ambulance to assess my injuries that included a few scratches and bruises. The boy slowly followed behind him standing at the door of the ambulance as I was laid down. The paramedic who was named John quickly ran away to get assistance and the boy climbed into the ambulance, placed a soft kiss to my forehead and placed a folded piece of paper into my pocket before quickly taking off. And that was the last time I saw him.
