Chapter 1

Chapter Text
Harry stumbles over the threshold of his new apartment, carrying the last one of his moving boxes into the living room. He puts it down on the floor, stands up and smiles happily. The apartment isn't huge, but with its open floor plan, the living room and kitchen look spacious and modern. He's got two comfortably sized bedrooms down the hall and a nice, recently remodeled bathroom. It's just big enough for him, and the best part about it is that it's his own place. Just his. He can't wait to turn the place into a relaxing home he feels comfortable returning to at the end of the day.

After breaking up with Zayn, Harry has made himself promise that he won't ever let himself be treated any less than he deserves again. He's determined to start over and be happy. He's going to be his true self, starting today, and he will never change for anyone ever again. With his job as a Junior Designer for a fashion brand in London he is able to afford a comfortable lifestyle, and he's going to prioritise that, but most of all; himself.

He sighs and then grins in excitement, still taking in the new space. This is going to be amazing, he can already feel it.

A knock on his door makes Harry jump slightly, but he recovers quickly and goes to open the door. A tall, well-built man with tanned skin and bright blue eyes hands him a clipboard and a pen.

"We're here to deliver your furniture, sir. Just sign here," he says, before turning around and lifting one end of the sofa they have already brought up. His coworker, who stands on the other end of the sofa, lifts his side as well and Harry quickly steps aside so they can enter the apartment. He signs the paper and hands it back to the first guy once they've put the sofa down. Harry leaves the front door open for them, picks up the first box that reads 'kitchen tools' and begins to unpack.

About an hour later, all of his bigger furniture has been delivered and put into place and Harry is glowing with excitement. The apartment already feels like he's supposed to live there. He has unpacked all of his kitchen appliances, his silverware and his tableware, and is now putting some of the decorations in place. Pictures on the walls, some plants and artwork here and there. It already feels like home.

oOoOo

On Monday morning, exactly one week later, Harry steps out of his brand new apartment with a bright smile on his face. He had locked himself inside for the better part of the week and unpacked everything in one go. He hadn't been in a rush or anything, but he's just so happy to finally have his own space that he hadn't even thought of taking a break. That turns out to have been a good thing, because now he can go to work with not one thing to worry about on his mind.

He closes the front door behind himself and makes sure it is securely locked, before he turns around and makes his way down the hall, trying to hide the stupidly massive grin on his face by staring at his shoes.

He has only taken about a dozen steps when he suddenly bumps into someone, causing the other person to stumble back a few steps with a loud "Oomph!"

"Oh my God, I am so sorry!" Harry gasps, feeling his cheeks bloom with embarrassment. He squeezes his eyes shut and scolds himself for being so clumsy.

"That's alright., I didn't watch where I was going. I'm sorry," the other person answers, their voice warm and gravely.

Harry's heart skips a beat and his eyes pop open in shock. He would recognize that voice anywhere.
