the call

   I remember getting the call.

I was relaxing on the beach in Miami, enjoying the sun when my phone started ringing. My hand fumbled around my towel before finally grabbing hold of it. When I saw my brother's name flash across the screen, I rolled my eyes.

Answering it, I raised it to my ear. "What the fuck, Marcello? I told you not to call me unless there was an emergency. This is supposed to be my vacation. No work."

I heard him sigh. "Yeah, I know and I'm sorry to interrupt because you really deserve a break but this is definitely an emergency."

He sounded tired. Very tired. Marcello doesn't get tired. He's the epitome of energy and sunshine, always my light in the darkness of the world we live in. If something made him sound like this, it had to be important.

"What is it?" I asked, now worried. "What happened?"

   "Liana...it's Papa."

I was on the jet back home within the hour.

I left New Jersey as their Principessa. One of the only girls in the biz and one of the most ruthless.

   I returned as their boss.
