The sun could be seen rising from beyond the vast ocean.

Dion managed to make his way back to inn without much issue. He was completely exhausted. All he needed to do now was report back to the others and replenish his energy.

He closed his eyes and used whatever mana he had left to signal the completion of his mission and awaited the response signal.

Whilst waiting, he decided to get himself some breakfast to replenish some of his energy. He requested for the inn to have his breakfast in his room.

Not long after his breakfast arrived, Dion could feel the communication device vibrate in his pockets.

The caller was the crown prince. Dion picked up the call. Little beads of light appeared from the device. It slowly shaped into the crown prince's face, creating a hologram.

The prince's eyes darted around Dion's room.

"It appears I have interrupted your meal."

"There is no need to be considerate to me, your highness."

"It is fine, I merely called to check up on you, and I see that you're doing perfectly well. I presume the mission has gone well."

The prince smiled calmly.

"Yes your highness."

Dion confidently replied.

"I shall leave you to your meal now. Make sure to report to me your daily progress."

Dion nodded.

The beads of light slowly lost its glow and returned to the device.

By now, an hour had already passed since he sent the signal. It finally struck him that something odd was going on.

(Were they all picked off?)

Dion thought that to be impossible. They were scattered to random parts of Oli's territory. Only one day had passed since the start of their investigation.

Dion used his mana to sense his surroundings but could not pick up anything suspicious in his area.

All of a sudden, he felt the faint touch of a mana string.

It was from one of his other partners. However the mana was so weak it was barely noticable. Had he not been suspicious, he would never have noticed.

Dion rushed out of the inn. There was not a single soul in sight. In his many years of adventuring, he had never seen such an absurd event before. The entire town became devoid of life in mere minutes.

He ran all around town but found no one. It was as though he was cut off from reality.

"Its quite the sight isn't it?"

A voice resounded the town.

Dion's muscles tensed up and his senses sharpened.

"Who are you? What do you want with me?"

Dion asked calmly.

"Trying to act dumb? We've already long since caught onto your plans, sir Dion Noe."

The mysterious voice cackled.

".'......... What happened to the others?"

The figure of a young boy sitting cross legged on a bench appeared before him with an innocent smile plastered on his face.

"They're all dead."

The boy's smile twisted into one of a psychopath.

"You bastard!!"
