~Oakley pov~

I sat up quickly in my bed- realizing I had another nightmare about my mom. It had been one year since she had passed and I was still having them. I could never remember the nightmare much- but I know she was there… her dead body at least.

I looked over at my window and noticed it was still dark. Quietly, so as not to be caught I leaned over the side of my bed and grabbed my brown box from its hiding place where it was tucked away safely. Once in my possession I opened it slowly and took out my phone- looking at the possessions my father would never allow me to have. I turned on my phone as the screen lit up I stared at it with a frown.

4:23 am friday April 5th.

It was still so early but I knew I would never fall back asleep. Today was my father's birthday which meant we were having a ball. He throws one every year inviting almost everyone from the surrounding kingdoms. The guest list was especially long this year, unlike last year when he only invited his closest friends and allowed me to invite Landon, my best friend.

I sat in my bed, thinking of my mom and the time  her, Katie, who is my little sister, and I went into town (which we don't do very often speaking the fact we have people who do it for us). My mom really wanted to go to the bakery and get some fresh bread because we ran out- which, I'll admit- was inconvenient since the chef was off for the day. My mom- being the stubborn person she is- insisted we go without any security. So, there we went into town and do you know what happened? We got ambushed by a group of kids. They couldn't believe the royal family came into town. Just thinking about it makes me miss her more. She always took everything in stride.

I checked my phone again noticing the clock now said 5:00 am. By now people should be awake and getting ready for the long day ahead of us. I put on my slippers and my robe, heading out of my room but was stopped abruptly by Annie; one of our housekeepers.

"Oh hi Annie good morning" I said with a smile on my face.

"Good morning princess" I shot her a dirty look at her response. I hate it when she calls me that. "I brought you coffee. I know you're gonna need it for the long day ahead".

"Thanks" I replied, sipping on the hot drink". "Is my father awake yet?" I asked, taking another sip. She shook her head, rushing away to go help set up for tonight.

I went back to my room realizing I forgot to put the box back under my bed. I walked over to my bed and sat down on the edge. I checked the time once more.

                             5:30 am

I returned the box back to its place under my bed, between a box of some of my mom's old belongings and a bin that had a bunch of letters me and Landon have exchanged over the years. Since it's the only way we could communicate.

After the box was safely in its rightful home. I walked over to my bathroom and turned on my shower, then walked into my closet and picked a green dress and a pair of heels to wear today. After I had my clothes I walked back into my bathroom and put my clothes down and went in the shower.
After I was done I got dressed In a sage green off the shoulder dress and a pair of black heels. I started to do my hair, and decided I would do something simple and just curl it.

I made my way to the main floor where the ball was being held. As I walked past the ballroom I saw workers, housekeepers, and waiters all working for tonight and being directed by our butler William. I slowly made my way over to the dining hall where my father and sister were waiting for me to start breakfast.

"Where have you been oakley'' my father said with an annoyed look on his face. " I'm sorry I took so long I was in the shower" I stated, knowing he wouldn't care no matter what I told him. "That is an excuse you are supposed to be down at 6 everyday" he said, now standing up with his fist on the table. " but dad it's only 6:05" I said. "I that back talk young lady" he screamed now walking over to me. "Dad no , I'm sorry. please...no stop" I yelled. " Look at your sister, you made her wait to eat, then you back talk to me. You should be ashamed" he screamed while he slapped me across my face. " Go to your room, NOW" as he said that I started running up the steps.

As soon as I was in my room I closed my door and jumped onto my bed. I cried, this has been happening since my mom died. When we were going through her things he found one of her old journals. This was before the funeral so he thought it would be a good idea to read an entry out loud to the crowd. The one he read was dated to around the time I was born, 10 months to be exact. I talked about an affair my mom has, which my dad already knew about. But when he read it to the crowd he made it seem as if he didn't know and accused me of not being his daughter. And ever since then he has favorited Katie, and hated me.

So now here I am laying in my bed crying. Eventually I decided I needed to go check to see if he left a mark. He did. I pulled out my makeup bag from the shelf behind me grabbing my foundation so I could try and cover it up.

After about an hour I heard a faint knock on my door. I went to open it and It was Annie. She had snuck me up a plate of food along with a Note from my father stating that I was not allowed out of my room till 4pm which was an hour before the ball started.

After I had thanked Annie I walked over to my bed and sat down so that I could eat. After I was done I grabbed my favorite book off the nightstand a leaned back. Thinking about my life. Thinking about my dad, my mom, my sister, and Landon. I wonder what was gonna happen tonight.
