The shower ran for a bit. Hot, steaming water dripping down my face, then to the ground.

It was calming.

I deserved this. I don't think my hair could take another day of excessive grease. It's been how long? 2-3 weeks? I don't know, I lost count.

Drip.

Footsteps walk in, I could hear a giggle coming from behind the curtain. "Clarissa don't you dare-"

Flush

Clarissa started laughing hysterically while sprinting out of the bathroom. The water began to become excruciatingly hot. I jumped forward, startled by the rude awakening.

"Fuck! I was almost done."
I sighed and waited for the water to turn back to normal.

She's seven, and an asshole. Sometimes I just wanna snap her neck, but I'm aware that I'll be the one in trouble.

The water was fine again. I finished rinsing off and took the towel I had laying out. Turning the handle, I opened the door and walked across the hall to my room.

It smelt like shit in here because my older sister won't clean up after herself. Food, clothes, all over the place. But she can't blame herself for her mess, no of course not. I pulled out my clothes for the day and started putting them on.

————————————-

Mother was home from work. She went from the door, to her room in 10 seconds.

Rough day I assume

Best not to bother her. We'll see her in a bit, but for now I have to pretend to eat my fathers experiment meal. I don't mean to be disrespectful when I say he can't cook, but when steak is white in the middle, I think it's okay to say it.
I mean at least it's not pasta again. Pasta is all we have, day after day. Don't get me wrong, I love pasta, but I can only eat like 16 noodles before my stomach starts hurting. Lets just hope this white not cooked properly steak doesn't kill me.

"Wesley!" Clarissa shouted. "My Roblox character won't load in! Fix it now."

She pointed to it, then dramatically crossed her arms. Why should I care?

"No I'm busy." My eyes glanced at her.

"Now!!!" She shouted in a demon voice, getting out of her seat to go hit me.
I grabbed her wrist before she could lay a finger on me, and walked over to the computer.

"There's nothing I can do, someone with admin commands froze you. It literally says that on the bottom" I sighed and walked back to where I was sitting.
"How was I suppose to know!" She whined.
I rolled my eyes, "Maybe learn how to read, then you'd know."

I finished my mystery dinner. I'm not vomiting everywhere so I guess it wasn't poisonous. I walked into the kitchen and threw away my mess. Flies swarming into my presence.

They're so annoying.

It's summer time and the screen door has been broken for years, so they just come here to hang. Along with other critters, since our place is full of mold and moisture. It's a jungle gym for them to play.
I noticed one of my cats swatting at a fly. He tried to get it, but failed. The little bug scurried away from the big gray puffball.
"Oliver leave it alone." He looked up at me, meowing. He walked towards me and swishes his tail against my leg, signaling that he wants food.
I go up to where his food is, he follows and stand on his back legs, holding onto the table to see which can I pick out for him. Today is chicken and gravy for him. I open the pantry to get out his kibble.

Squeak.

The pantry creaks, and I hear a tiny meow from below.
"Your hungry too?" I ask the kitten. The white cat walks over to his bowl. "Guess I'm feeding you as well."

I make their food, while listening to the faucet drip. Oliver jumps onto my leg impatiently, his yellow-green eyes piercing through my soul. I shake him off and put down their food. They immediately run to the bowls, eating every last bit.

———————————-

"Wesley" My mother called. "Come here."
She sounded like she was in a better mood than before. I walked down the hall to her room and saw her on FaceTime with my nana, whom she tells every detail about our lives to.

"Hi honey, how was dinner?" She gave me the did you die  look and smiled. "What do you think? The steak was discolored and tasted like water." She laughed and my nana joined in.

"Why do you let that man cook if he can't even do it properly?" My nana stated, shaking her head in disapproval.

"Mom, I was at work. I need someone at least to get food ready." She paused. "We don't even have much food in the house to begin with. Rent, the phones, the car. They all had to be paid. 80% of my paycheck went towards it all."

So that's why she called my nana, to beg her for money.

"Oh my poor dear, I'll lend you some cash. How much you need?" My nana said, sympathetically.
"200$ would be enough for the next two weeks." "Of course dear, swing by here tomorrow at 3, your sister will be at work so you won't have to deal with her." They both laughed at her comment.
I sat on the creaking bed and waited for their conversation to be over.
"Alright." "Alright." "Alright." "Alright." "Alright bye." "Alright." "Alright." "Bye"
She finally hung up the call.

"Alright?" I said, mocking her. "Oh shut up!" She laughed and sat up to talk to me. "Did you do your homework yet?" I looked at her with a full face. "What do you think the answer is?"

She rolled her eyes, "no. Wesley it's Sunday you need to get it done, you have school tomorrow." "I know, I'm doing it tonight because I never have time during the day. Watching Clarissa is a full time job and nobody else is there to do it." I argued. "But dad is home all day" she said confused. "He's in here sleeping all day, you really think he does anything?" She turned her head and sighed. "True true." She paused for a second.
"Hey, wanna go to the store with me? I need to pick up a few things." I nodded my head repeatedly, I'd do anything to get out of this place. "Okay we're gonna leave at around 9,  so be ready." And with that, I gave an okay and escorted myself out of her room.
