"I'll write the words 'I love you' on the sand"Violet was sprawled out on her bed. The dark studio apartment was lit up by the moon, the huge window beside her bed captivated it perfectly into the room. Her covers that seemed to disappear as she laid completely uncovered. Her dainty fingers reached to the moonlight that peaked into her vision. She took a few breathes from the world around her and took back her hand. The passion within her diminishing by the second. She had thought by coming to the city of Seattle that her downs would become easier to deal with. Violet would chuckle thinking about how easy it was to convince her dad, sending her away must've been easy for him too. But as the summer music camp she attended ended and the two month lease was also coming to an end, she didn't know what her next plan was gonna be.
The little paper she tucked away deep into her dresser, as though not to see it, was something she often thought about. Her mother's number was written on there. How she got it wasn't important but it did take a lot to find it. Violet curled up as she remembered the constant screaming and arguing. She softly clutched her ears, the same action she would do when she was five. The feeling never straying far from her.
Seattle wasn't somewhere she thought she would ever set foot in. It wasn't that different from the secluded life she lived in New York, it was all the same. The same loneliness she had become familiar with. Her dad only called once a week and it was only to check if she was still alive. Grateful for the shelter and food he gave her, violet never dared to curse her father for his emotional neglect. She could tell he also was suffering inside.
'it must be hereditary'
Whose fault was it? Violet would never know the answer. Maybe her mom felt the same way when she was with them...the times she was younger she would feel inadequate because of these thoughts. Did she get what want when she left? Violet hoped her mother was happy and at peace. She longed for that feeling, so she could never wish misfortune onto anyone. Karma was a real thing and it was a bitch.
'Should I take a chance?' Last time she saw her mom was when she was 10. The little ice cream date was to soften the blow violet took once she learned that her mother was going to leave New York and go back to her hometown. Her grandmother had been sick for a long time, and now it was time for her mom to repay her by taking care of her. This meant that she wouldn't see her for a long time. Violet could still feel the way her mother's arms tightened around her outside her father's car.
"Sleep well and take care of yourself." Even at that time her mother worried about her child's irregular sleeping schedule. It was one of those nights where she felt restless. Her cell phone that laid onto her nightstand was in plain view as she turned her body onto it's side. The temptation to dial the number she already memorized after countless back and forth a with the paper. "I miss her." Violet thought out in a whisper.
Her fingers worked on their own as they dialed the number and hit the call button. A part of violet wished that she wouldn't answer, so that the pain of starting a conversation wouldn't make her so anxious. The phone rang and rang. Until the soft voice of her mother could be heard from the other side of the phone. "Hello?" Violet's heart skipped a beat. She didn't realize the way her face crinkled into a smile the second she heard her greeting.
"Hey mom."
