Little Eleusi didn't smile a lot.- She is in crisis - her mother Clara tried to excuse her with her relatives, who tried to involve the child in some kind of dialogue. If at times you wonder why your children are shy, try to imagine what they must think of your relatives: - Who is that tall guy who has been talking to me for half an hour? My mother claims is my uncle. And why does he laugh like that, at nothing? Isn't he laughing at me? -Woe to laugh at Eleusi! The result was a tacit, terrible and, as you can well imagine, dreaded hostility: low eyes and pouting mouth. It is sad to be small and unable to arouse the slightest fear. For this child, it was also sad to be female, in the minority and unable to assert herself against her tomboy cousins on her mother's side. They ran everywhere - the surrounding countryside had no secrets for them now. She fell still (how many glorious scars on her knees!). Their toys, she could never borrow. If she shared hers, they were taken from her.Around the age of four, the ransom: the little girl learned to read. Soon, even to write.Do you think the males were impressed? - Now she thinks she is a mother! They said, with disapproval. They meant an adult, a teacher to be exact.A little Mrs.-know-it-all, Eleusi was, frankly. But it was perhaps this new self-confidence that made her learn, thanks to her father Bruno, to stay balanced on the bike and climb everywhere, falling less than usual. It was a miracle, as far as she can still remember, if she did not fall fatally once in particular. Her feet made their way up a dry stone wall in the countryside, perhaps no more than a meter high in that stretch, her little hands were firmly on the border fence. Suddenly, they lost their grip, after a slip. Eleusi remembers that she fell on her back, then a black out.She found herself anchored again with her hands to the net, standing in a more stable point of the wall, from which she immediately had the good idea to go down, not to go up again. Thanks to the miracle, or presumed one, Eleusi was able to make her cameo as a little bridesmaid, in the film of a family wedding. Always with a sad face, but without tears. But this time she was justified: she had just lost her dear paternal grandfather, the one who told her fairytales. Her parents were in mourning and she couldn't see them for a whole day.
It must have felt like an incomprehensible privation at seven.
