Maddison woke up on what seemed like a normal day from her bedroom, besides the fact her room was completely destroyed, and all of her belongings were on the carpeted floor with rubble from her ceiling around it, she looked around, thinking it must've been an earthquake, since those weren't uncommon where she was, she tied her hair into two pigtails, throwing on a simple t-shirt and some shorts, walking out to the kitchen, that was more destroyed then her room, in fact, it was almost completely gone, so was the rest of her house.

She looked back at her room, wondering how on earth she had survived that, and how her room was the only thing standing in her house? She looked out across the neighborhood, from where her living room once was, seeing how almost everything was destroyed. This definitely wasn't any normal earthquake, in fact, it wasn't even an earthquake, something had happened while she was asleep, I mean, her mother always had said she was a heavy sleeper, wait, where was her mother? She began looking around the rubble of what once was her house, she was worried, her mother wasn't anywhere to be found, in fact, there was nobody in the rubble of any of the houses...

She wondered if everyone had left and she didn't get the memo, and had just gotten that lucky, but she knew she couldn't have been that lucky... She walked back into her room putting on some clothes and packing a bag full of clothes, pulling on some sneakers that weren't covered in rubble. She grabbed her phone, it was fully charged meaning it must've finished charging before whatever had happened had knocked out the power. She obviously had no service, or wifi, so it was useless anyways, but she thought it would be a good idea to keep it on her incase she found somewhere that wasn't completely destroyed with service or something. She grabbed her phone charger for a similar reason, and began walking across the rubble, looking at the destroyed houses, some of them with flames within the rubble.

As she walked, she wondered how on earth her room was the only thing that hadn't been destroyed when her entire neighborhood and even her entire city that she had grown up in had been destroyed...

She walked, for days and weeks, stopping every so often at a place that hadn't been completely destroyed for a sign of life, but it was always empty, occasionally with food or water which was good, since she assumed she was the last person around there. She always waited for someone to come, someone to rescue her from this barren wasteland she wandered through for hours on end.

After about a week of walking, she was far away from home, very far away, since she didn't have a map, she had no idea where she was, she could only tell by the signs on the roads, she decided it would probably be a better idea if she walked using the highway, or even better, find a car that wasn't completely damaged, she knew it sounded ridiculous, so she just kept walking, as she found a highway to walk down, she followed it, looking at the signs every once in awhile that showed her where she was.

She walked, living only off the food and water she collected on her journey, until she was too tired to keep walking, which was about two weeks after walking non-stop, only taking a break to sleep only to continue walking the next morning. She sat down on the side of the highway, leaning against a fence, she wondered if she sat and waited, someone would come for her, someone would come and save her from this nightmare.. maybe her mom? Or even a complete stranger, she didn't care, she was tired of being so alone, of being so tired, not being able to talk to anyone but herself.

She waited, and waited, and waited, until she saw something, something that wasn't an inanimate object, running towards her, wait..it wasn't running...it was...flying? It wasn't a bird, it was definitely human.. was she hallucinating? Was she dead? It got closer, stopping in front of her, out of breath, it was a guy, maybe in his early 20's, he looked down at her. "Holy shit, are you okay?" he asked, putting a hand out for her to stand up. She grabbed his hand, pulling herself up and looking at him, "Who are you?" she asked, trying to process the fact she wasn't the only person still alive in this barren wasteland.
