Quiet Morning

Sun glared through the window. Paige awoke to the sight of white gauzy curtains, bright with sunshine, in a bed that was much too comfortable to be her own. She sat up quickly, not immediately recognizing her surroundings. The movement disturbed the woman next to her, who rolled over, pulling the sheets over her eyes. Suddenly, all of the last night's events came flooding back to her.

"What time is it," Eve asked hoarsely.

"9:30."

"Already?" she groaned, "We missed breakfast in the Hall."

Paige stood up, and walked to the kitchen. She grabbed some leftover rolls that Eve had saved from lunch the day before and bit into one. Eve walked up behind her, the duvet wrapped around her bare shoulders like a cape. She hugged Paige from behind covering the two of them in the blanket. Paige closed her eyes and leaned her head back onto Eve's chest. Eve rocked the two of them slowly, swaying to the sound of morning birds.

"I wanna do all of this again," Paige sighed.

"Me too."

Eve lifted Paige up so she sat on the kitchen counter, Eve standing between her legs. She placed gentle and slow kisses over Paige's neck, down her chest and stomach. A few stray bruises and hickeys trailed down Paige's torso, leftovers from the night before.

"Don't do that," Paige said.

"Why?"

"Then I won't want to leave. I have to leave, it's getting late." Paige looked up at the clock, sure enough, it was almost ten. Eve pouted, but allowed Paige to hop off the counter. Paige put on her uniform, which was scattered across the apartment floor. Eve just pulled on an oversized t-shirt. Paige hesitated before leaving. She walked back over to Eve who hugged her once more, and pulled her in for a passionate kiss.

"You should brush your teeth," Eve told her, making a face.

Paige laughed, shoving her shoulder.

"You should get going though," Eve said, eyeing the clock. "People might notice if you go missing the whole day."

They kissed one last time before Paige left the apartment door. Walking through her teacher's office, she pulled the door to the hallway open a crack, peering down to see if anyone was looking. The hallway was empty and silent.  In fact, every hallway was silent all the way up to her dorm. Once she opened the door, Paige saw three clean,  freshly-made beds, where the girls should have been. The school was empty

.....

Lucky me, she thought to herself as she grabbed her pack of cigarettes and headed for the window. It was then that she looked down into the courtyard. A mass of students was filing back into the front gates. None of them were in uniform however, they were all dressed up. Suits and dresses, polos and ties; the teachers too.

The realization hit her. Chapel. Today was Sunday. Sunday morning school chapel! But, it was too late. Students and teachers had already begun to enter the building. There was no way for Paige to sneak into the little church late, or even try to blend in with the group heading in. She would have to hope that no one had realized she was absent. There was nothing to do but wait for her roommates to return.

Gretchen was first. She gasped when she saw Paige. Alice and Georgia followed right behind her, looking smug.

"Where were you," Georgia asked, slyly.

"Yeah where?" Alice echoed.

Ice filled Paige's veins.

"What do you mean, guys?" She said, feebly.

"I'm not stupid," Georgia said, while Paige scoffed, "we all know you didn't sleep here last night, and you obviously didn't show up for chapel. So, where were you?"

"The boy's dorms maybe?" Alice suggested, feigning innocence.

"That's not a bad guess, Alice," Georgia said. She took a break to inspect her nails before looking back at Paige. "In fact, that's what I told Mrs. Banks I suspected!" She finished with a satisfied smile, obviously delighted at the idea of Paige getting in trouble.

Paige's face flushed as she realized she would be flayed by Mrs. Banks. Taking two steps forward she said, low and furious "Fuck you Georgia".  Paige stormed out of the dorm room before she started an all out fist fight with the others.

"Bitch!" Paige heard Georgia yell as she left.
