Cold stones under her bare feet, only the weak light of the moon giving her the ability to see where she was going. Empty hallways making her wide steps the only movement to be heard out of the nightly silence of the school. She was going fast, but without control of the direction. Still in her Pyjamas it felt like a dream, pictures made up by her own brain and memories of the school building. She didn't know where she was going but she followed something, something she couldn't explain. It wasn't like a feeling, or a vision, it was something autonomous. Maybe it was instinct, maybe it was just a wish that something would happen. That somebody would come for her and lift the veil that covered the mystery of her past.
There it was again, the voice that called for her, like a quiet whisper getting louder and louder with every step she took. It led her on and on and it was impossible for her to stop. Eyes open following every action. Bloom felt like a spectator in her own body, everything moved around her, she could feel the cold stone under her feet sending shivers through her limbs, but she couldn't escape the need to go on.
"Bloom! Bloom! Come and find me!", the voice was quietly echoing through the girl's head, leading her to wherever she was going to.
Her pace increased and mere seconds later she caught sight of a door, the exit of the building. She was heading outside, to her surprise the gate wasn't locked and Bloom left the old school unnoticed. Where was she going? Slightly wet grass tickling her feet and a cold breeze blowing her hair off her shoulders. The voice reached her ear again, it felt calm and comforting, though her heart skipped a beat and her breath stopped every time the sound echoed through her head. The fairy tried to listen closely while her feet carried her hastily towards the nearly lightless forest, but she couldn't tell whose voice she was hearing without any chance to prevent the sound of reaching her ear. Although the underground was slippery and her pace increased with every step till the closeness to running was smaller than to walking, she didn't stumble or fall into the rain-soaked dirt.
Her head was telling her to stop, turn around and head back to the school, but her body didn't follow her commands. The wind was holing through the night as the fairy entered the woods. Branches breaking under her feet, wouldn't she be alone, someone would definitely notice the loud cracks she caused because of her disability to dodge even the smallest obstacle that crossed her way. Bloom couldn't recognize the trees she was passing, everything looked so similar and though completely foreign. Suddenly she caught sight of a small clearing and it seemed like she was approaching the tiny area. Was this her distance? Bloom thought she was ending up lost in the woods, somewhere between one tree after another, unable to locate herself in the middle of nowhere. With every step she drew closer, the hope she had felt before faded away piece by piece. The fairy couldn't see anything in the directions her body was leading her.
Meanwhile:
"What was that?", Saul pulled away from Farah and asked frowning. Cracking branches and steps from not far away caught his attention. He tried to listen more closely but it seemed like the unknown wasn't approaching them, more passing them a few meters beside. Farah saw her partner's alerted look and called on her magic to identify what caused their beautiful little bubble to burst and pulled them back into the sad reality of being surrounded by danger everywhere the eye could see. Her warm hazel eyes turned icy blue and suddenly her mouth dropped open as the magic fulfilled its purpose. The mind fairy held on Saul's jacket with a tight grip as if she needed support to stand up straight.
"It's Bloom, Saul, something is terribly wrong here!", the headmistress spoke frightened, shaking her head, trying to process that the beautiful moment they had before was gone. Farah started to follow the steps she was hearing clearly with the help of her magic deeper inside the woods, closely followed by Saul, who desperately tried to understand what was happening.
Soon they caught sight of the young fire fairy approaching a clearing. The headmaster wanted to run to the girl, but he was held back by the woman next to him.
"We don't know what's going on, something isn't right here", Farah tried to whisper as quiet as possible to not catch any unwanted attention as they hid behind a big tree, following every of Bloom's steps with their eyes.
Confusion and uncertainty spread inside Bloom's head. There was no one. Whose voice did she follow? Why was she even there, alone in the dark, deep in the woods, for apparently nothing? But she went on, her body still didn't allow her to stop. Suddenly something changed, she crossed a magical barrier as she reached the clearing. Farah and Saul saw her disappearing behind it and slowly approached the light barrier, still hiding in the safe shadow of the trees. Someone must have done this to protect themselves and seal off from the outside world. Taking a few more steps her body stopped, leaving her motionless, only analysing the surroundings. The voice came up once more, but this time it wasn't only in her head, Bloom could hear it loud and clear coming from behind a tree at the opposite of the clearing. A woman emerged out of the dark. Long red hair lying free on her shoulders, yellow-green eyes sparkling in the light of the moon. The woman formed a big smile as she looked at the young fairy.
"Bloom, you are here", her voice was as calm as before and the girl watched her opponent with a startled expression approaching herself. She didn't know her, though somehow, she felt familiar to Bloom. The fire fairy exhaled sharply as she felt a tingling sensation in her belly, that was the moment she realized who the person in front of her was.
