Happy Birthday To Me

I can't believe this is happening to me...

It all started on the eve of my thirteenth birthday...

My pencil was racing wildly across the paper lying atop my desk. Up, down, sideways, the pencil looked as though it had sprung to life and had a mind of its own. I'm the one holding it, yet I still don't believe I'm in control of the hand holding the pencil.

This stupid pencil seemed glued to my hand, as even though I've tried many a time today to remove it, it wouldn't budge. This started when I woke up this morning, the day before my birthday. By now I must look dreadful. I can feel my silver hair stuck to my head, knotted beyond recognition. My violet eyes must seem dull with dark bags and sticky lids.

I have always loved drawing, call it an addiction, if you will. I'm well known at school for my drawings and strange looks. Some thought I came from a different world when I told them I did not, in fact, have colored contacts and dyed hair.

My arm ached from lack of stretching and my legs were numb from sitting down for hours on end. I glanced down at my paper, no longer alarmed by the unnatural speed of the pencil. On the paper was a door, an old oak door, that had a metal nob and gems decorating the edges. If I looked close enough, I could see they were opals.

My drawing ability seemed double that of my art teacher. It was strange to see, a hand moving on its own and a paper with a magnificent door. It seems as though my focus was caught on the door, because I hadn't noticed the decorations around it. It's not my fault I was distracted. The door had seemed... familiar to me somehow, like it was quite important.

Around the door were vines with strange flowers growing on them. They had intricate patterns that seemed impossible for a flower to have. Floating around the flowers were beautiful butterflies that, even when drawn, seem we d to be m as described of glass. The beauty f it was unrivaled by anything I had seen before.

This is where the as adventure of me, Opal Silverink, begins
