"No , I told you no"
"Why not?"
"Because It's my birthday Ri , you wouldn't wanna go against the wish of the birthday girl , would you?"
"Exactly it's your thirteenth birthday you will officially become a cool teenager just like me"

River and I have been friends since I was ten , we met at a broken building every day for almost an year until River's family got suspicious and sent River's brother to check on him , everyday from 6 to 8 pm, River and I would hangout but then one day River decided to sneak me to his room and River's brother opened the door just to find two twelve year olds cuddled up watching Clueless .

Ever since then It got a little different because River's mom didn't like that his son went to a broken building alone to meet some unknown girl but after the horror of finding their son had been going for two years and a year without me being there they got more furious which just added to my discomfort because River was being shouted at for nothing because maybe if they cared enough about their son to notice he was missing from their home for two hours for two years maybe he wouldn't have a reason to escape.

River and I both had a reason to escape from our respective homes which we only shared with one another , we both told eachother at our fifth meeting suprising one another by the openess and comfortablity with sharing secrets and the unhesitancy behind it.
Our clandestine meetings fell short after the discovery of our friendship but we still meet eachother at the building every week sneaking out from our houses at night just to feel the tranquility we felt when our relationship was kept a secret.

"So what is the big deal? Another year I get the honor of tolerating you" I told him and River made a sad face and a hand gesture showing a heart broken .

"You got the honour part right just wait till we are in highschool and you tell people you haven't had your first kiss" He replied
" River only dumb people care about that stuff"
"Are you insinuating I'm dumb?
I got an A on last week's english test and you were the one who got a C " He said crossing his arms
"Whatever River, this isn't the way you get a girl to kiss you especially on their birthday , you can just ask Adrianna to do you a favour which she'll happily accept unlike me"

I started to go at at River's school this year beacuse we didn't want to go to separate schools now that our parents knew , so River somehow managed to convince my parents to put me in his school and Adrianna was our friend from school who has a crush on River but River told me he'll only reciprocate those feelings once he had his first kiss with me.

"Rose you know I told you I want to be eachother's first kiss within the first week I met you , minus your initial horror"
"Fine but what will I get in return?"
I replied with a defeated sigh

"My luscious lips , of course"
I elbowed him in his ribs
"Well then I guess you're going to highschool without your first kiss"
"Rose, I was kidding you don't have to worry about the return gift because after I give it to you , you will kiss me yourself"
"Fine now get out of my room , I have to get ready , it's already twelve pm my mom will kill me if I don't get ready now"
"Alright, Dont forget to come at the building at eleven pm"
"I know I won't, out now"

River had invited me to his house aka mansion at six o'clock beacuse he told me he wanted to spend my birthday alone with me and when the clock struck 5 , my mom came in to get me ready which I already was but she insisted on some makeup because I was 'growing now' , so I just went along with it. So when it was quarter past 6 I quickly wore my shoes and got in the car with my parents.

"Suprise" was the first thing I heard as I knocked on their door.

"Happy Birthday Rose"Said River as he hugged me
"River you already wished me 20 times since midnight , also can you let go now I didn't get more than a second to see my surroundings before you hugged me "
" Yeah River , Its time to let go of Roslyn now I think she'd like to be wished by her favourite Jackson"
Said Kyle , River's brother
"Alright, stop bullying me" Said River letting me go from his arms.
