I stand in the hall, tears flowing down my face silently. I drifted into the living room, sinking slowly into an arm chair in the far corner. I curl my legs under me and lie my head back. I let out a sigh while closing my eyes.

A beam of light burns my eyes. I put my hand up for protection. I adjust, slowly spreading my eyelids. 'The sun must be setting,' I think. I look up and out my living room window. The sun is lighting the sky in a beautiful gold colour. I stand up, my legs wobble slightly. I rub my neck as I stumble to the window. Yellow clouds twirl around the earth forming a halo.

"beautiful," I sigh while pushing the window open, letting the warm summer breeze waft in. I rest my arms on the sill and gaze at the sky. The sun casts a warm golden light on me. I watch as the grass flows like a green sea in the wind. birds chirp and bugs buzz. The sun warms me as I take in the sunset. I close my eyes, allowing myself to bathe in the light

The wind blows again. The air, however, is stale and dry. The sun is blocked out, I begin to chill. My mouth is dry, and my lips are cracked. My eyes crack open, salt crusted along their lids. I look around at the dull living room I'm in. The pale wall, void of any art or decoration of any kind. I look to where the window was moments ago, only to see the same dull scene. There is no sun. The lonely room is cold and dark. I uncurl from the flower patterned chair I had crawled onto. The floorboards creak under the pressure of my body.

My unsteady legs carry me to the door, from which a stale wind blows in. I push the door closed with ease. I stare at it quizzically, wondering why it had given me such a problem earlier.

My heart drops. The events of the day come rushing back to me. My eyes sting causing me to blink, a single tear rolls down my cheek. I rush into the living room, frantically scanning the area. The small bird is nowhere to be found. 'Was I dreaming,' I think, while looking around the room. 'I could have sworn it was real.' I let a sigh out and sulk into the kitchen.

--------------------------------------ON THE HORIZON----------------------------------------

The grass crunches under it's feet, long, sharp claws click against a nearby rock. It cranes its neck, looking behind, waiting for the rest of the pack. One leaps into the air a ways back, letting the others know they are close by. The creature looks back to the house on the horizon. The smell of human flesh lingers in the air. Something the beast hasn't smelt in ages. Up until now it has been reduced to feeding off of small rodents.

A familiar clicking sound comes from behind. It's the sign that  his pack is awaiting orders. The Alpha turns to face his inferiors. Propping himself up on his hind legs.

He scans over the four others. Each of them are equipped with long claw like nails, protruding from scrunched up hands. Their backs are arched in a crescent. Short spikes poke though their skin from their spines. Reminiscence of hair dangles on the grotesque faces. Jagged teeth crisscross throughout their mouths. Black tongues hide behind the teeth. Their noses are mere slits and their eyes are that of a feline.

He makes a low grunting noise to the others. He doesn't wait for a response as he turns back to the house. The creatures move swiftly, not making a sound. Their strong legs propel them through the tall grass. In minutes they circle the house, slowly drawing closer. The keen ears of the things pick up the faint clank of metal, a sure sign that someone is inside.
