CHAPTER 2
The Offer
I still can't fully process everything that just happened to me. Plus, I kept thinking about that mysterious guy. I was shivering from the cold. I lost my balance and almost fell on the cold road. Fortunately, a pair of warm arms caught me. The last thing I remember was his blurry smirking face.I cursed inside my head. Is danger still chasing me even in my dream?
At that moment, I knew I was already awake but I still wanted to sleep more. My room's smell is so soothing.
Wait. Why does my room smell like coffee and freshly baked bread?
I got up and found myself inside a coffee shop.
"Oh snap! My interview!" I remembered the call I received last night with regards to the job interview I applied for at a coffee shop. "Why am I here? This isn't the place."
I ran to the door but before I could get out a familiar man blocked my way.
"Not yet, lady."
I groaned in annoyance. I saw him somewhere, I swear.
"With all due respect, mister, move," I sternly said.
"Did you hit your head somewhere? You just passed out and you already forgot everything. Really?"
His words made my head hurt. I held on to the table near me to support my balance. Everything that happened came back to my mind. He's the mysterious guy!
"What time is your interview?"
"10 o'clock," I answered absent-mindedly.
"It's almost 1 pm," he said as he pointed to a digital clock hanging on the wall behind the cash register. "Since you obviously can't make it, why don't you join me instead?"
He showed me a sly smile. I could not speak. It was as if cold water had been poured on me. I can't confirm whether it was because I just lost the chance of getting hired or because of the fear that's coming back into my system. He held the hem of my polo, and I let him pull me towards a table by the window.
As soon as I sat down, I immediately reached for the glass of water in front of me. I consumed it in just one gulp. Then like a child, I wiped my mouth. I am still shivering. My clothes are still wet but not as wet as before.
"What do you want? Are you hungry?" He handed me the menu but I only stared at him dead in the eyes.
"Don't worry, I'll pay. Why don't you changed into some dry clothes first?"
He reached for something under the table. It was a shopping bag. He smoothly slid it on the table towards my direction and I caught it before it falls to the floor. I was zoning out the whole time. I'm going crazy with everything that's going on.
"What are you waiting for? Should I help you get changed?
I hugged myself, and shook my head.
"Pft. Nothing to hide from me. I've seen a lot those though."
I abruptly stood up before things become more awkward and headed directly to the comfort room. I could hear him laughing from a far. Psh.
"Pervert," I commented as I stepped inside one of the cubicles.
After I got dressed, I examined my image in front of the large mirror. What he brought was a mid-length floral dress that would have looked too big on me but luckily it had a strap attached on the sides which I just tied on the back to adjust the fit. I undid my bun and just let my wet hair loose to air dry.
