It is with deep sadness that we have learned today of the passing of Sir Terry Pratchett. In my humble opinion, he is one of the greatest of modern writers. His discworld series is not only filled with his unique humour, but with barely disguised social comment. I truly feel as if I have lost a friend. Below is my tribute.
Your words took me to a new and wondrous world.
A world of Dwarves, of Wee Free Men,
Of Witches, Wizards, and the Orangutan.
The river Ankh with all its smog
Foul Ole Ron, and a talking dog.
Commander Vimes, a rational man,
Who poured his booze all down the pan.
Werewolves, Gnomes, and Centaurs too,
All received respect from you.
You weaved your words and made me smile,
Forget my troubles for a while.
It's not untrue for me to say
My heart is heavy on this day.
But know this, Sir, your words live on,
I pray I'll go where you have gone.
To any of you that have not yet had the pleasure of reading discworld, I assure you that it will enrich your lives, as it has mine.
