Night Before the Full Moon
Derek had fallen asleep on his bed, his uncle left wake. The older male could smell the boys sadness and it was one of the few things they shared.
Although Peter was sad, it wasn't for the same reason.
Derek was grieving, believing that she was dead.
Peter on the other hand knew that she wasn't.
He felt her heart stop, but she hadn't died. He never knew what happened but he knew that she was okay. Their mate bond went beyond a pack one.
Peter had previously had foggy memories of the 6 years after the Hale fire, but his death and rising from the dead unlocked something.
Ember wasn't human.
He could remember her visits and her telling him about the Order and being a phoenix. To say he was shocked was an understatement.
His mate bond pulled him and he knew that she wasn't lying, but how could he tell his nephew.
Ember had been the only person to calm down the boy when he was a teen. She would play basketball with him to help him learn to control his temper and reduce his lashing out. Her disappearance led to the rise of his threats since he couldn't fully control the anger anymore, nor could Derek find a good way to channel it.
She had been his best friend, and Peter needed to break the news that she wasn't dead but he didn't know how.
He remembered the feeling of her in his mind. It was strange but she felt warm... and nervous. He could feel all of her emotions and while she had been in him, he could also hear some of her thoughts.
She was worried about him and his health.
His anger towards being abandoned was still there, but it softened greatly. She was the only one that took care of him and that was all he wanted.
He could remember when she changed his bandaged when they needed to be. Her gentle touch and caring gaze. He remembered how she asked the mother nurse to take care of him.
She was the only good in his life.
And it was the end of another year of her missing.
He sighed and went to another room. He sat on the bed with a picture of her in hand. The two of them were happy. Together, Peter would be smiling and laughing nearly the entire time and people in his family would randomly take photos of the two and Peter would do it as well. There were so many photos of the couple and with the family.
Peter smiled softly at the image, hearing her laughter and giggles from when he would catch her as they ran. He set the photo down and turned off the light, darkness quickly taking over the room.
He laid down and sighed, waiting for sleep to take him. He couldn't handle thinking about her anymore. It hurt but there was something else as he waited in the dark.
He had a feeling, a buzzing in his head as though something was going to happen, but he couldn't pin point it.
Sighing, Peter melted into his pillow and was pulled into darkness, waiting for a light.
