Seated deep within the library of My Cottage, you turned page after page of the gothic thriller you found yourself caught up in. The Castle of Otranto had been a favourite of your grandmothers, her knowing the author personally, she had handed her beloved copy of the book to you upon her death several years ago. It became a book you cherished with all your heart, revisiting it often, finding comfort in the gothic and its terrors.
"I knew I would find you here," A masculine voice sounds from the doorway. Glancing up from your current page, you smile softly at the sight of your husband, Benedict.
"I didn't want to interrupt your painting," You smile, "So I thought I would revisit some old friends."
Benedict smiles; the corners of his lips twitching as the smile takes form on his face, lighting up his Bridgerton blue eyes. He laughs gently as the smile greets you full force, making your heart race. The simplest of movements, and he has your heart tripping over itself.
"Stop smiling at me," You whisper, chiding the man playfully, "I can't think straight when you smile at me."
"I think I'm in love with you," Benedict responds just as quietly, the smile still on his lips.
"You do?"
He nods; the strands of his hair falling into his face. He pushes them back with a single hand, flashing you a bashful smile. "I do," He states firmly. "I love you very much."
"Then I'm very lucky to say I love you too."
