Chapter One

It’s been two years since they murdered the only person I will ever love in front of my eyes. Since they took away the only thing I had and enjoyed it. I’m broken. These two years have passed by so fast, I’m only 19 and my life is over. I met Callum when I was 16. We were friends at first, he was the only real friend I had ever had. I tend to drive people away, even my own parents. My father left when I was 10 years old and never spoke to me again. My mother told me to leave when I was 14 because she couldn’t take it anymore. She has a new baby, doesn’t need me. Nobody needed me except Callum, and I only needed him. One night, we were sitting in the woods up a tree smoking pot, he looked into my eyes and said “I love you.” I told him I loved him too. He said, “No, I am IN love with you Kelcie.”

Three months later we were getting stoned at his flat when he had the idea to make our lives perfect. We were going to steal some meth, sell it for a high price on the black market, repeat until we were rich, buy a house in the countryside of Dublin, grow potatoes, and live happily ever after. A couple of weeks after that, he had some addresses of where to get the Scooby Snax. We were pretty good at stealing, learned from being on the streets I suppose. Eventually we had 200g of the stuff. Enough to begin selling. Over this time I don’t think we had been sober once, they usually say, “Don’t be stoned when you are dealing unless you want to get yourself killed.” We had made it pretty far. After some debating on resale values we decided to sell it for £100 per 0.5g. Callum was in charge of selling and I was the accountant, he didn’t want me getting hurt.

On April 7th, we were at his flat playing poker, and “celebrating” with some real pure Coke, some of our best. We had earned £1,300! Someone banged on the door. Callum was in the kitchen. “Who is it?” I shouted. “Do you want the money or not?!” I should’ve been smarter than to just let this man is, being high doesn’t exactly heighten the senses. He walked in with a couple of other guys, they were shorter than this monster of a man. He was absolutely huge! He wore a leather jacket, baggy jeans, and metal studded boots. I wasn’t scared, another affect of the cocaine. “Gimme the wad. How much do you owe? “I said, taking a gulp of my beer. He stepped towards me, so close I could feel his breath. “Who are you talking to? Bitch.” He threw me to the floor. I stood up almost instantly. My fists were clenched and my jaw was tensed but Callum ran in front of me, shielding me. I tried to push him out the way to get to the man but he grabbed my wrists tight. I didn’t stop fighting to be free but I wasn’t much of a challenge for Callum. He was strong.

“I need you to get out.” He told the man in a stern but calm voice. How did he do that? Stay so calm? The man refused and stepped closer to us. He shoved Callum into me and sent us both to the floor again. This time I was going to bash his head in! Cave his skull into his brain! We stood up. Callum told me to go to the bedroom but I refused. He pushed me towards the door so I kicked him. He didn’t show the pain apart from gritting his teeth. “Get out.” He said, turning back to the unwanted visitors. His voice was much louder and angrier than before. The man jutted his jaw towards me. His two little helpers charged at me, one grabbed my upper arms and put them behind my back. The other man stood in front of me. I lunged towards him and sunk my teeth into his shoulder, the man holding me yanked me back so hard that my head hit the wall and blood trickled down my neck. My vision went fuzzy, I don’t know if it was because of my head or the drugs. They were holding me so tightly against the wall that there was no way I could move. It was like watching a horror movie through a burred screen. Callum was against the opposite wall, being held by his neck. He was trying to kick out but was too much in a panic. He was gasping for breath and his face was turning bright red. I screamed, “STOP!” The men who were holding me laughed. Tears began streaming from my eyes and I begged them to leave. “You can have all our money! Please!” The man on my right leaned towards my ear and said, “Why would we take your money and let you live when we could kill you and then take everything you have?” They all chuckled. I was more angry than scared.
