You would think I would learn from the past but no I still didn't use protection. Well here I am comforting Colleen as she cries about us having a baby. We had been together at this point for seven months but I was determined to learn from my past. "Maybe it's a sign." I said petting her smooth brown hair. She stopped crying, pulling away from my arms looking me dead in the eyes. "What sign?" she snarled, her green eyes were a flame. "Colleen I love you and I would be honored if we were married." I proposed and Colleen's eyes softened but then turned away from me. She leaned forward stiff as a board of wood, she was inches from sitting up off the bed. "Conor, I don't want to get married just because I am pregnant" She disclosed without looking at me. I took her hand and got to the floor looking her in the eyes so filled with sadness. "My dear, I am marrying you because I see the future with you, a life spent with another human being is all I want and all I ask for." I reassured her. Her eyes lit with love and tears began to flow with joy instead of sorrow. "I will marry you as long as we have a proper wedding in three months." she smiled, jumping to hold me tight.
We agreed to make an announcement about our shotgun wedding in a week and would invite all our close friends and family to a dinner to celebrate. In the meantime I packed to move in with Colleen. "Just because you knock someone up doesn't mean you have to live with them" Alden whined carrying a box down the stairs. "Alden! Stop, you will find another roommate!" I snipped carrying a very heavy box. "But dude we will no longer be two single pringles out on the prowl!" just as he said that who did we see coming up the stairs but Coleen and the seven months pregnant Atheana. Both burst into laughter at Alden, mother like daughter. I smiled at them both."Is that the last of it?" Colleen asked, wiping away a tear. "Yes that should be" I gleaned at both of them. These were the women I would be living with for a long time.
When we got down to the truck I noticed the disapproving glance from Colleen, I followed her glare to Juan. This was the boy that was to replace me as father, he looked similar enough to me. Tan skin, a tad darker than mine, hair that appeared black except in the sun then the copper bits would show, dark blue eyes which I got from being half spanish, him I know he got from his father as his father was my older brother. Unlike my brother, my nephew was a punk and didn't deserve even a second of Atheana's time. Unfortunately we needed him to pretend to be the father so I could do my duty as the actual father. Having the same last name had its perks. Right this moment Juan was smoking a blunt waiting for us. He didn't lift a finger this whole day of moving. "That's the last straw" Colleen hissed obviously about to do something in the middle of the street. "Honey , wait, I will go talk to him."I put my last box in the bed of the truck and I walked across the street over to Juan "hey bucko, could kindly put out the blunt and help us finish up" Juan just looked up at me then looked ahead at Alden talking to Atheana who was laughing at most likely some cheesy joke. "There's your decoy. I am done." Juan said, pointing at the two and walked off. Well shit, there goes my decoy. Juan was blind Alden was too white to pretend to be the father and not to mention he didn't know anything about it. I wanted to keep it that way. "Juan! Juan honey where are you going?" Athena cried after Juan and he flipped her off. The next few minutes became a blur, my finance running after Juan, a fist fight breaking out between the two, Alden running to stop the fight and now I was following the police car that was hauling all three of them to the slammer. "God damn him!" Athena screamed next to me. I shook my head. "At least he might be out of the picture." I pointed out trying to think positively. "It's not a good thing! He was going to help me get an apartment!" she cried "well I can forget it now." she became a puddle of tears in the passenger seat next to me. I regret what I did in that moment but she was a lady in need. I pulled over to console her, I let her cry in my arms. "What am I going to do now?" she cried curing into my chest. "You can stay home, let me and your mother take care of you." I said softly into her smooth hair, she stopped crying and looked up at me. "You guys can't take care of me forever, especially with another baby on the way." she huffed. "H-how did you know?" We haven't told anyone yet. "The door to mama's room was open so I heard every word." Athena began to cry again "I will care for all of you and give all the love I have" I promised her she looked up at me with those big green. "Do you mean it?" she sniffed she snuggled closer, too close "yes" then it happened we kissed. It was filled with longing and desire, I was caught up in a spider's web.
"No, we need to stop." I pulled away. "Okay" Athena whimpered. The rest of the car ride was quiet. We bailed out Alden and Colleen then I had a very long, very heated conversation with Juan's father. Juan most likely was not getting bailed out any time soon. The announcement about the wedding was made then everything became a blur of work, wedding planning, helping with household chores and Colleen crawling onto me every night.
The big day came, my wedding day! I woke up alone as Colleen wanted to spend a week apart to make the wedding night more special and perhaps she was right. In that week I spent my time with Alden, Artemis and Ares. I need to keep my head and keep away from all women, I need to be faithful. I managed to do so, but at night alone in my bed I daydreamed about Colleen and Athena together. I knew it was wrong but god did it feel good to imagine the two. Today I would get to see my bride after a week away from each other and I couldn't wait. Everything was ready so I took my place at the altar. Everyone we knew and loved was there to witness the wedding that had been planned in three months. Next to me was Alden, my best man, Artemis and Ares. The music began and everyone stood turning towards the door and in came the very pregnant beauty of Athena today she was bridesmaid but someday she would be a bride. She wore a silk green dress with pink flowers that acted as straps. The rest of the bridesmaids took their place at the altar then came in Demeder who was the flower girl. Then my blushing bride ,her hair was curly bun with a crown, her dress reminded me of a fluffy cupcake with a strapless top. She was breathtaking, the icy lare I had created around my heart was gone, melted away by my bride. Our vows were taken and the best kiss Colleen and I had and would ever share with her was right there and then. Colleen and I were married, she was now my life.
