It was April 21st, and there I was. Laying down on my bed in my room that's located in the basement of my house. I'm watching YouTube while also playing a game on my phone. It felt like any normal day for me. Nothing out of the ordinary, same old routine, all the time.
Then, about 10 minutes later, I receive an unexpected snap from someone I haven't talked to in years. It was Todd himself, otherwise known on Wattpad as Radishologist
Todd was the host of an old Kik Comp that I used to participate in. He was a pretty cool guy, and it was really great to hear from him after all these years went by.
The snap he sent me said "Hi it's Todd aka Radish from the Kik Comps. Watch this video here and let me know by May 16th if your answer is yes or no!" This took me by surprise. I began to get a feeling of excitement course through my body. I knew what was coming.
I clicked on the link he sent that contained the video, which took me to an unlisted YouTube video he had on his channel. The video started out with an old "Summary of the Radish Reunion Comps" in an old timey theme, and as the summary went on, it went faster until eventually the screen blacked out and the video went in reverse until it showed Todd.He explained that at the time of the video, it had been 5 years since the comps began, and that it had been 3 and a half years since the 'final' season- Radish Stars -had been played.
His next statement made me jump out of my bed."It is currently April of 2021 and I think you know where this is going.." Todd crossed his arms across his chest, smirked, and said the words I was waiting to hear.
"..It's time for a reunion!"
And with that, the video turned to an eerie music being played in the background while lighting flashed all over the screen. The phrase "The Radish Reunion Comp" began to move closer and get bigger on the screen. The music stopped, and the screen was left with nothing but the date, May 21st, 2021, signaling the start of season 7 of the Radish Kik Comps.
I was still in disbelief after watching the video. I thought it was all over... I thought to myself.
I thought there was no going back for me-
Not even 10 minutes after viewing the video, I had already had my answer on if I wanted to participate in the reunion or not. I agreed to compete and said I was excited to get back in action.
There were a few reasons that I had decided to participate.
1. I wasn't proud of my previous performances in the comps, and this was my chance for redemption; to prove that I belonged
2. I wanted to see who all was still alive and active on social media, since it had been over 3 years since I've communicated with most of them.
3. There was somebody that I wanted the chance to meet again, I needed an opportunity to right a wrong, and I hoped that they would also compete in the comp as well.
4. Participating in these comps, or in any comp is just plain fun, and I was excited for the opportunity to hang out and have some fun again.
Those were my motives, and I knew what I wanted to gain from the comp itself.
There were a few conflicts, though. Before the announcement of a Reunion Comp, I had applied for a job that would require me to live in the middle of nowhere all summer, with very little service. Low and behold that I would get hired for that job, and this added a rather hectic element to my comp experience.
Anyway, there was still about a month left before the condo would actually start, so I'd have to set it on the back burner and focus on my real world problems that I had to resolve before the company started.
So all I could do comp-wise was wait for May 16th, the deadline of when people could agree or decline the comp invitations, and a day that would forever change me- for better or for worse.
May 16th, here I come.
