Chapter 17
(A/N finally getting to write an original chapter, Unchanined had set the bar for this quite high, so I hope I can keep up)
***Three days after world war hulk events***
***Jean Gray pov***
***Xavier's institute for gifted youngsters***
Jean was sitting in her office, a pile of used tissue paper, it was this morning that she was at the funeral of one of her best friends and lover who she fell hard for.
Jean remembered standing there with Jane Kent, both were bawling their eyes out as they saw the coffin being lowered to the ground.
Marcus Kent was a wreck as well but had put on a brave front for his wife, this was every parent's worst nightmare, having your child die before you do. Jean, her parents and Clark's parents were all embracing now all the woman crying and the men just being strong for their family's sake.
Jean got awakened from her daze when she heard a knock on the door, "come in Hank." She answered already knowing who is in the door thanks to her telepathic abilities.
The first thing to get through the door to her office was the dark blue furry hand, then the rest of the body of the beasty mutant came through the door.
He had a somber smile on his face, Jean knew that he took the news of Clark's death quite hard, everyone in the institute took the news hard but hank was a different case, Jean knew that he probably wouldn't admit it but he began to see Clark as a friend, rather then just a colleague.
The furry mutant came and sat on one of the chairs in front of Jean, he looked at her and said "just came in to check on you, how are you doing?"
Jean smiled she appreciated her old friend checking up on her, she wanted to say she was ok, she wanted to say that the worst is over.
But as soon as she opened her mouth she began to cry again, it wasn't as bad as before but it was still quite hard.
Hank was quick to come and comfort her, he gave her an awkward hug, all the while patting on her back and saying "there, there."
The only thing that came through Jean's mind was the regret that she never really told Clark that she loved him, and it would hunt her for the rest of her life
***Carol Danvers pov***
***New York, Baxter building***
Carol was in her civilian cloths standing near the windows viewing the city being rebuilt, it was still a mess, especially after Bill Foster's nephew Tom foster had gotten his hands on the Goliath formula, made himself big and came after tony and misty knight, but soon after when the aliens from sakkar had fought each other he gave up in order to bring some semblance of piece.
Now Carol was looking at him as he helped damage control by holding the side of a falling building, tony had told her that he was going to hire him after what he saw the kid doing with his uncle's formula.
But Carol wasn't thinking about that, honestly the only thing that came to her mind these last three days was the one thing she didn't want to think about at all.
Clark.
She kept thinking about her ex and how he had hid his powers from everyone, even his bloodwork was not showing anything, but he was able to keep up blow to blow with the hulk himself, he was even able to fly faster then she could, at first when she only knew his hero persona as Cobalt she thought much like everyone else that he had made his own stronger version of the iron man armor, but now she didn't knew what to think.
