Emma pulled her hair up into a long ponytail as she headed out the door early the next morning. The air was crisp with a touch of sweetness to it, being early October in Maine. Emma pulled her leather jacket a little closer around her as a slight breeze picked up.
The sun was peaking through the clouds, but overall it seemed a bit overcast for 8am.
Through her tired yawn, Emma passed by Granny's Bed & Breakfast and thought a coffee might do her some good.
What an odd day yesterday was.
She thought to herself.
Getting engaged, having possibly the best sex of my life, and then..
Emma cut her thoughts off short. She did not want to reminisce in the weirdness that happened between herself and Regina right after. The door chimed when she entered the diner. Granny met her with a warm smile, while Ruby hurriedly bussed tables.
"Hey Granny."
"Emma, good morning!" Granny replied, "Not used to seeing you this early in the day."
"Yeah," Emma answered, "I had a weird day yesterday, didn't get much sleep. I am very much in need of a caffeine jolt."
"Ah, I see. Well then, one Americano Coffee coming right up!"
As Emma waited for her caffeine fix, she pulled her ponytail out, letting her long, blonde waves tumble over her shoulders. Slowly, she glanced around the room at all the patrons. This place is hoppin' in the morning.. I should get here earlier more often. That's when she saw her. The very sight of her made Emma catch her breath in her throat. Is that... Regina??
Granny brought over Emma's coffee. The piping hot brown liquid let off a tremendous amount of steam from the cup. "Here we go dear, drink up."
"Hey.. Granny?"
"Yes?"
"Um, who is that?"
"Who dear? You'll have to be a little more specific. Diner's packed today."
"Oh, sorry." Emma explained, not wanting to draw attention to herself, "That woman sitting there at the far table.. in the stripes."
"Oh." Granny replied with a solemn expression, "that is Ms. Rita Castillo."
"My god.." Emma replied, "For a second I thought it was.. Regina."
"Yes, she's an interesting one all right." Granny said.
"Who, Regina?"
"Oh, no dear," Granny replied, "Ms. Castillo. Not the most pleasant woman I've ever met, that's for sure."
Emma watched Ruby bring Rita a glass of amber liquid, as Rita just glared in silence at nothing in particular.
She did not look like she was in the best of moods.
