It never occurred to her brain; why did people find her different? Even if she was different, different didn't mean wrong, right?
Her mind was straight chaos while the wind was banging her in the face. Conceived and somewhere in her own world she stared into the darkness with her head put out the window of this wreck of a car that belonged to her lovely father.
"When will we get there?" she asked her father but her voice could hardly be heard from some random country song playing on the radio, volume increased to maximum. "Don't worry dear, we're nearly there" he said, his sea-blue eyes not leaving the road. The truth was, she didn't want to get to this city entirely new to her.
Dalnim Hills, a small town which she only heard about from her father, was a very mysterious place as he spoke. Her father grew up in this city. And now, after he divorced from her mother, he decided to come back to where he came from; the house where he was born and where still lived his mother, Sojin's grandmother.
Sojin has never met her grandmother. Her parents barely talked about her. All she knew was that her grandmother existed and that she lived far away.
"Can you tell me about her?" Sojin asked. "It's really strange that I'm going to meet her now, at the age of seventeen." They were bustling down the road and beside houses with big, green front yards. Everything seemed so soothing and serene.
"Oh you'll love her! You two are the same!" he joyfully answered, returning memories of his gentle and lovely mother.
"How's that?" Sojin's body was filled with curiosity as she leaned back in the seat and expected an answer, randomly touching the buttons on the radio in order to change the station because the old country songs were not really her thing.
"You're very curious and good-natured, just like her. And you look alike." His eyes strayed to Sojin who sat next to him as he smiled widely.
A wave of curiosity strongly hit her. She always felt different. Like she did not belong anywhere. As if all doors were closed for her. She was afraid that she would become the music that no one wants to listen to and from whom are all tired. Like her while listening to that country song before. What was even scarier is that it's already happening. She did not want to know what it feels like to be a book that no one reads. She said she has forgotten it, that she has erased everything. It's all in the past, and she didn't want to remember it. But actually, she still embraces it in her heart.
The feeling of happiness that she may found a person like her was lying deep in her heart.
The car stopped, as always, abruptly. In general, she did not like her dad's driving, and even less parking. "It looks like another attempt to murder me failed" Sojin teasingly said to her father, smiling a wide smile because she could imagine annoyed expression on her dad's face.
They stopped in front of a small house with a pastel pink facade. White ligneous fence was surrounding a large front yard. Sojin's dad opened the car door and ran to the door on Sojin's side. "Take it easy" he told her in a gentle voice as Sojin, holding onto his hand, was stepping out of the car. A slightly warm breeze caressed her face and the scent of roses intoxicated her whole body. Step by step, they came to the entrance of the yard. "Grandmother is cultivating roses, isn't she?" Sojin asked. Her dad smiled "Yes" "It smells wonderful. I love roses."
Tall and muscular figure was watering and tidying beautiful roses that elegantly stood under a window. He was interrupted by the gentle female voice coming from behind him. Curious, he turned around and his eyes wandered to the beautiful, slender female figure. Next to her was a huge man. She was holding onto his arm as they together walked toward the house.
